Location: Hurricane, Utah
Status: Full-Time (30 Hours Per Week Initially; Expected to Grow to 3540 Hours Per Week)
Reports To: Independent Living Supervisor St. George
Travel Required: Frequent Travel Throughout Washington and Kane Counties
About Red Rock Center for Independence
Red Rock Center for Independence (RRCI) is a nonprofit Center for Independent Living serving people with disabilities throughout Southwestern and Central Utah. RRCI empowers individuals with disabilities to live independently through advocacy, skills development, peer support, assistive technology, information and referral, and transition services.
We are seeking a motivated and community-minded Independent Living Coordinator to expand and strengthen services throughout Hurricane Valley and Kane County.
Position Overview
The Independent Living Coordinator provides person-centered services that help individuals with disabilities achieve greater independence and community participation. This position serves Hurricane, La Verkin, Toquerville, Hildale, Colorado City, Kanab, and surrounding communities.
The successful candidate will be highly knowledgeable about Independent Living philosophy, disability rights, consumer choice, and self-determination. They will develop strong relationships with consumers, schools, colleges, agencies, businesses, and community leaders while delivering direct services and expanding RRCI's presence in the region.
This position works closely with staff in the St. George office and participates in Washington County team meetings and collaborative service planning.
What You'll Do
Consumer Services
- Develop and implement Independent Living Plans (ILPs)
- Provide information, referral, advocacy, and independent living services
- Assist consumers in achieving self-identified goals
- Maintain accurate and timely service documentation
- Support consumers in accessing community resources
Independent Living Skills Instruction
- Provide one-on-one and group training in:
- Travel training and community navigation
- Self-advocacy and disability rights
- Budgeting and financial literacy
- Community living skills
- Communication and problem-solving
- Community integration
Outreach & Community Development
- Build relationships with community partners and referral sources
- Represent RRCI at community meetings and events
- Work with Chambers of Commerce, schools, colleges, healthcare providers, and local organizations
- Develop partnerships throughout Hurricane Valley, Hildale, Colorado City, and Kanab
- Increase awareness of RRCI services within underserved communities
Youth & Transition Services
- Collaborate with Youth Independent Living Specialists based in St. George
- Support transition-age youth preparing for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living
- Participate in school and transition planning activities as appropriate
Assistive Technology & Loan Bank
- Assist consumers in identifying assistive technology solutions
- Coordinate short-term equipment loans through the RRCI Loan Bank
- Work with the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR) and other partners regarding long-term assistive technology assessments
- Educate consumers regarding available assistive technology resources
Transportation & Community Access
- Provide transportation for consumers when necessary and approved
- Assist consumers in developing transportation plans
- Support increased access to employment, education, healthcare, and community activities
- Ensure consumer safety, obey all traffic laws, and organizational procedures
Qualifications
Required
- Commitment to Independent Living philosophy and consumer-directed services
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently while remaining closely connected with a team
- Valid Utah Driver License and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel throughout the service area
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic record systems
Preferred
- Associate degree in Human Services, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Education, Disability Studies, or related field; equivalent work experience accepted.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Knowledge of disability resources, benefits, and community services
- Personal or professional experience with disability-related issues
Work Schedule & Flexibility
- Initial schedule of 30 hours per week
- Expected growth to 3540 hours per week as services expand
- Flexible scheduling based on consumer needs and community activities
- Some remote work opportunities may be available following successful onboarding and demonstration of independent performance
