As Vineyard and Truck Maintenance Mechanic at Bonterra Organic Estates, you will perform maintenance and repair of our vehicle fleet and vineyard equipment in order to contribute to the success of our farming operation of approximately 830 acres of vineyards. This includes completing work orders based on priorities and business needs as well as performing BIT inspections on all vehicles under DOT regulations. Responsibilities

- Follow direction of department supervision in carrying out maintenance in an effective, safe and timely manner according to established procedures
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to vineyard and vehicle equipment, tools and implements as required and to ensure compliance with safety regulations and established maintenance schedules
- As needed, travel to Bonterra Organic Estates’ ranches in the Hopland and Ukiah areas to provide mechanical support on equipment located at these sites. Perform repairs on equipment, tools, implements, etc. at remote field locations. Communicate with Sr. Vineyard Manager, and Production Maintenance Manager on all requests for parts and supplies needed at ranch locations
- Inspect equipment requiring major repairs or overhaul and determine the nature and extent of the work to be done. Notify Sr. Vineyard Manager, and Production Maintenance Manager of findings and make recommendations
- Load and transport a variety of farming equipment to and from various ranch locations
- Take prompt action to correct unsafe conditions
- Troubleshoot problems reported by operators and drivers
- Complete assigned work orders
- Suggest modifications to improve performance and to increase production
- Maintain work environment, including shop locations and service trucks in clean, organized and safe manner
- Perform minor and routine repairs including but not limited to welding, cutting, fabrication, hydraulics and electrical wiring
- Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in vehicle/heavy truck/vineyard equipment maintenance required. Candidates coming from trade school programs in vehicle maintenance with less work experience encouraged to apply
- Will require certifications to operate specific equipment, machinery and/or plant vehicles
- Valid Driver’s License with clean DMV record required, Class C. Valid Class A license preferred
- Will require work in maintenance shop environment and outdoor environment, including dirt and pavement, in all weather conditions, indoor and outdoor, as well as working and standing on concrete floors
- Experience reading and using equipment manuals, equipment drawings and electrical schematics to diagnose and resolve equipment problems
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanics, knowledge of all phases of tractor, vehicle and equipment mechanics; diesel and propane engines.
- Must be able to follow directions
- Basic computer skills required for operation of time clock, work order system, research, email and related tasks
- Requires reading and writing in English and basic math abilities
- Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervision. Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus
- Requires pre-employment physical
- This is a 5-day/8-hour per day position, Monday – Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Will require occasional overtime and weekend work during harvest and as needed. May also require call ins and call backs in the case of emergencies
- Trade school or apprenticeship program in maintenance preferred
- ASE certification a plus
- Valid Class A license preferred
