Industrial Mechanics – Water Renewal Facility The City of Boise is hiring a skilled maintenance team member who will support the City’s advanced wastewater treatment and public works operations. This hands‑on role focuses on mechanical maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment including pumps, motors, valves, piping, and process systems. Key Responsibilities Perform corrective and preventive mechanical maintenance, repair, replacement, installation, and operation of wastewater process equipment. Repair, modify, and rebuild worn or damaged equipment; conduct mechanical troubleshooting, pipe fitting, plumbing, welding, and fabrication. Operate hand and power tools, chain pull hoists, power saws, forklifts, overhead cranes, and advanced shop fabrication tools such as lathes, presses, and milling machines. Fabricate, weld, and cut parts and accessories using welders, torches, and a wide array of hand and power tools. Use computer programs to enter data, create maintenance records, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals; research and order parts and equipment. Review design documents, industry publications, and equipment specifications; advise on equipment selection and maintenance standards. Assist in evaluating and setting maintenance standards, safety procedures, and coordinating maintenance projects as part of the facilities management team. Attend and complete required training to comply with city, state, and federal regulations and maintain professional licensing and certification. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, installing, fitting pipe, plumbing, and fabricating in a maintenance or industrial setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid state‑issued driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I certificate or Operator in Training (OIT) within six months of employment. Proficient knowledge of engines, pumps, valves, compressors, electrical circuits, process instrumentation, low‑ and high‑voltage electrical systems. Knowledge of occupational safety standards, industrial maintenance hazards, pipefitting, welding, plasma cutting, and fabrication. Understanding of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and related regulations. Computer proficiency and related software usage. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and safety data sheets. Strong communication skills in English; ability to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical ability to lift/carry up to 100 lb, push/pull up to 100 lb, perform tasks in confined spaces, process hazardous materials, and drive a vehicle safely. Preferred Qualifications Four years of experience in a Class IV advanced water renewal (wastewater treatment) facility or industrial maintenance setting. Formal degree in maintenance management or a related field. Physical Effort & Workplace Conditions The employee consistently lifts and carries up to 35 lb, occasionally up to 75 lb and rarely up to 100 lb. Items are also pushed or pulled up to 20 lb consistently, 35 lb frequently, 75 lb occasionally, and 100 lb rarely. The work environment includes exposure to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and vehicle hazards, extreme temperatures, wet and humid conditions, dust, odors, mist, gases, infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals. Work may occur outdoors, at heights, in confined spaces, and on uneven surfaces. Shift work, rotating on‑call schedule, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays are required.
