Patient Safety Officer (PSO) and Associate Medical Director, Hospitalist Services

Overview The Patient Safety Officer (PSO) and Associate Medical Director for the Hospitalist Services serves as a physician champion dedicated to advancing a culture of safety, reliability and continuous improvement across all entities of the health system while maintaining an active clinical practice. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and collaborating with other system leaders, this dual role integrates patient safety strategy with leadership in hospital medicine operations and frontline clinical care. Responsibilities Chair safety committee and participate in root cause analyses, safety event reviews and system wide safety initiatives ensuring alignment with national frameworks such as the Joint Commission, CMS, and Institute of Health Care Improvement standards. Foster transparency, learning from harm and cross-disciplinary improvement efforts that reduce preventable harm. Model just culture principles, mentor peers in event reporting and response, and contribute to enterprise-wide safety education, analytics and improvement strategy. Compensation Salary range of $300,000 to $350,000; competitive compensation models include generous wRVU productivity incentive with the opportunity to grow, uncapped. 401(k) and 457(b) retirement plans, paid holidays and PTO, CME allowance and dedicated CME time, malpractice coverage, relocation allowance. Qualifications MD or DO Board eligible or certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Existing or eligibility for New Jersey Medical License, DEA and CDS required. Minimum 5 years of progressive health care experience leading patient safety initiatives in a hospital or a health system. Demonstrated success in leading root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis and safety event investigations. Familiarity with regulatory standards e.g. The Joint Commission, CMS and experience preparing for accreditation surveys as it pertains to patient safety. Master’s degree in Patient Safety, Quality Improvement or related field or Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) or Quality Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ).
