Job Overview :
At Ingersoll Rand, this is not a “check the box” category management role — it’s a seat at the table during a pivotal moment of transformation. Based in Mocksville or Charlotte, this role sits at the intersection of strategy, influence, and execution, where deep-spend analysis, market insight, and long term vision directly shape how the business performs. This is where ideas turn into impact, where category strategy becomes a catalyst for change, and where procurement is evolving into a true competitive advantage. Step into a Category Manger role within our Compression Systems and Services division owning multiple commodities and serving as the business level category leader.

You will develop and drive strategic commodity roadmaps, analyze and envision the future state of spend, identify gaps and opportunities, and influence cross functional teams — without authority, but with credibility. You’ll partner closely with CSS North America manufacturing sites, global category leaders, sourcing managers, engineers, suppliers, and NPD teams, helping guide decisions on sourcing strategies, supplier selection, productivity initiatives, and supplier performance. In some cases, you’ll personally lead execution; in others, you’ll initiate change and bring teams along through influence and alignment. This role is ideal for someone who brings more than a traditional sourcing lens; Someone who is energized by solving complex problems, influencing outcomes, and building the vision for what’s next. It’s also a role with clear growth potential, built for someone who has the capacity and ambition to grow into broader leadership over time.

Responsibilities:

• Manage global and/or regional commodities: Identify and engage with internal stakeholders (engineering, regional procurement teams, product management, operations, quality) to capture commodity requirements and ensure supplier qualification and quality - partner with regional teams to efficiently transition suppliers as needed
• Develop and execute detailed commodity strategy to include:
• Assess Opportunity for commodity including spend segmentation, commodity maturity, cost drivers, and supply market analysis
• Develop Sourcing Strategy for commodity detailing projects, sourcing levers, timing, resources, and expected benefits
• Accountable for execution of sourcing projects including continuous improvement, consolidation, etc.
• Define negotiation strategy including supplier profiles, commercial negotiations targets, defining switching costs, and building Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, to include:.
  • Conduct or support negotiations and supplier selection - accountable for contract lifecycle management and compliance 
  • Delivering commodity productivity through price negotiations, supporting value analysis/ value engineering projects (VA/VE or i2V) and other continuous improvement projects.
  • Support supplier segmentation, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and quarterly supplier reviews for all strategic suppliers within commodity. 
  • Support commodity continuity of supply - engage with plants to help teams resolve escalations. 
  • Support region/sector NPD Procurement teams through preferred supplier programs and RFQ's.
  • Forecasting, reporting, mitigating, and recovery of commodity inflation 
  • Lead periodic Commodity Reviews including updated projects, metrics, strategy, and countermeasures 
  • Leverage Supply Chain analytics to support identification of pipeline opportunities

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or relevant field
• 8+ years of progressive experience across procurement, sourcing, consulting, buying, materials management, and/or analytical roles.
• 4+ years of demonstrated expertise in vendor negotiation and supplier evaluation, with a proven ability to assess performance and drive value.
• 4+ years’ experience coordinating, facilitating discussions, consultation and conflict resolution

• Project Management – Reviews and approves project plans, oversees execution, and balances short- and long-term priorities. Ensures alignment and clear communication across cross-functional stakeholders.
• Problem Solving – Proactively identifies and anticipates risks, leads root cause analysis, and ensures robust corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
• Relationship Management – Builds and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners, suppliers, and industry peers through consistent, professional communication (verbal and written).
• Supply Chain Analytics – Utilizes business intelligence tools and ERP systems to analyze data, develop reporting, and drive actionable insights that uncover opportunities and enhance decision-making.

• Plant or Factory experience
• Experience interacting closely with engineers / end customers. 

Travel and Work Arrangements:

• Based onsite from either Charlotte or Mocksville, NC
• Travel up to 30% to partner with manufacturing sites and suppliers on performance optimization and commercial alignment.
