Duration:  1-Year Contract (Potential Extension)

Schedule:   Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Note: Rotational weekend overtime may be available after ~5 months or upon full training completion.

Job Summary:

The Lab Animal Technician supports Animal Resources (AR) operations under general supervision, ensuring the humane care and maintenance of laboratory animals in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves animal husbandry, facility maintenance, equipment operation, and accurate documentation while contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide daily care, handling, and enrichment of laboratory animals (routine and specialized colonies)
  

• Perform animal observations and promptly report abnormal findings
  

• Clean, sanitize, and prepare cages and maintain animal housing areas
  

• Operate and maintain facility equipment (e.g., cage washers, rack washers, environmental monitoring systems)
  

• Monitor room conditions and ensure adherence to veterinary and regulatory standards
  

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all tasks in compliance with SOPs
  

• Assist in training team members and reviewing records for quality and compliance
  

• Support facility maintenance and participate in rotational assignments across animal/support areas
  

• Identify opportunities for process improvements, new technologies, and methodologies
  

• Ensure compliance with company policies, SOPs, and regulatory standards (USDA, FDA GLPs)
  

• Promote a safe, efficient, and team-oriented work environment
  

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Experience in animal care, laboratory, or related environment preferred
  

• AALAS certification highly desirable
  

• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  

• Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
  

• Effective verbal and written communication skills
  

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities
  

• No known allergies to animals
  

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  

• Frequent bending, squatting, pushing/pulling, and reaching
  

• Prolonged standing and physical activity
  

• Ability to handle and restrain small and large laboratory animals
  

• Must be able to wear required PPE (respiratory, eye, hearing, hand, and foot protection)
