CARS employs Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with decades of experience working in the Federal marketplace.The Senior Database Engineer, you will work with a broad range of customers on enterprise database design and implementation strategies while applying Esri technology best practices. You will consult with customers to understand business and technical requirements, design enterprise data management strategies, and implement those strategies throughout the engagement life cycle. You will work both independently and as part of project teams to configure back-end geospatial database management capabilities that support customer workflows utilizing ArcGIS web, desktop, and mobile applications.ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement robust, scalable, and secure database solutions to support mission-critical applicationsCollaborate with cross-functional teams during all phases of implementation, including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deploymentConfigure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategiesMonitor and tune database performance using industry-standard tools and methodologies (such as query optimization, indexing strategies)Implement data security measures, access controls, and compliance standards across environmentsAutomate routine database loading, maintenance, and monitoring tasks to improve efficiencyProvide technical guidance and best practices for database design, migration, and integration projectsOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field5+ years of hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANAFamiliarity with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and securityScripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflowsActive or Current (within two years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibilityPreferred Qualifications: Experience in technical support or customer-facing GIS rolesExperience with data conversion or migrationKnowledge of Linux and UNIX environmentsFamiliarity with web mapping and remote sensing toolsProficiency in Python scripting and SQLGIS certificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and/or Windows environmentsExposure to geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexingAbility to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and nontechnical project managers or customersAbility to work independently and yet be effective within a team settingMust be capable of managing multiple efforts with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environmentDemonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individualsFriendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applicationsProficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting, as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired.Good problem-solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve itHow you'll grow At Chenega MIOS, our professional development plan focuses on helping our team members at every level of their careers to identify and use their strengths to do their best work every day.
