Role Summary The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the production processes in a manufacturing facility. This role ensures that products are produced efficiently, on time, and within budget while meeting quality standards. The Manufacturing Manager also focuses on optimizing processes, managing staff, and maintaining safety standards. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Supervision & Leadership Lead, manage, and supervise a team of manufacturing supervisors. Assign tasks and monitor the daily activities of the manufacturing supervisors. Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to manufacturing supervisors. Production Management Ensure department production schedules and targets are met. Monitor production processes and adjust schedules as needed to meet demand. Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and efficient production. Quality Control Implement and enforce quality control standards and procedures for the department. Inspect products to ensure they meet quality specifications. Identify and resolve production and quality issues within the time frame of the job schedule. Safety & Compliance Enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Conduct regular safety inspections and coordinate training sessions. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards. Continuous Improvement Identify areas for improvement in the department production process. Develop and coordinate the implementation and execution of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives based on analytics of the production processes and workflows. Develop and coordinate cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects. Use data‑driven approaches to enhance production performance and reduce waste. Reporting & Documentation Maintain accurate and updated records of department production activities and initiatives. Prepare and submit department operations reports to the department director. Document any incidents, accidents, or quality issues of the department. Resource Management Manage the allocation of department materials, machinery, and workforce to optimize production efficiency. Ensure that all necessary materials and supplies are available for production. Training & Development Identify training needs and provide ongoing training and development opportunities for staff. Develop and coordinate training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge. Collaboration & Communication Inform the direct manager of any planned or unplanned leave presented during the work schedule. Facilitate effective communication between production teams and other departments such as engineering, quality assurance, maintenance, scheduling, security, and safety. Participate in cross‑functional meetings to discuss and resolve production issues. Maintain open and constant communication about all department matters with the direct manager. Equipment Maintenance Coordinate with the maintenance team for optimal stock of spare parts to reduce downtime. Ensure that maintenance activities are performed regularly to prevent equipment breakdowns and extend the life of machinery. Performance Metrics Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve production performance. Use performance data to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Conflict Resolution Address and resolve conflicts or issues among supervisors’ staff promptly and effectively. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Workforce Planning Plan and schedule workforce requirements based on production forecasts and demand. Manage overtime and shift schedules to meet production goals. Team Management Supervise and manage a team of production workers, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation. Foster a positive and productive work environment. Ensure team compliance with company policies and safety regulations. Process Improvement Identify areas for improvement in production processes and implement changes. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency and productivity. Utilize lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and optimize workflow. Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field. Certifications Lean Manufacturing Certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt). Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) by APICS. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. OSHA Safety Certification. Skills & Experience Technical Skills Proficiency in manufacturing software (e.g., ERP systems like SAP, Oracle). Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and practices. Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software. Analytical Skills Ability to analyze and interpret production data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Proficiency in statistical analysis and problem‑solving techniques. Strong understanding of process optimization and efficiency improvement. Leadership & Management Skills Proven ability to lead and motivate a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Conflict resolution and team‑building abilities. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Problem‑Solving Skills Ability to troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions. Strong decision‑making capabilities. Innovative thinking to improve production processes. Project Management Skills Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong planning and organizational skills. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Trello). Quality Assurance Skills Strong understanding of quality control procedures and standards. Ability to implement and monitor quality assurance programs. Knowledge of ISO standards and regulatory compliance. Production Experience Extensive experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Proven track record of managing production operations and meeting production targets. Experience with implementing and managing lean manufacturing initiatives. Management Experience Significant experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a manufacturing setting. Experience leading and developing a diverse team of production workers. Proven ability to manage and optimize resources effectively. Process Improvement Experience Demonstrated experience in process improvement and optimization. Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies. Track record of implementing successful process improvement initiatives. Quality Assurance Experience Experience in developing and maintaining quality control systems. Proven ability to manage quality assurance programs and ensure compliance with standards. Experience with conducting quality audits and addressing quality issues. Technical Experience Experience with manufacturing technologies and equipment. Familiarity with automation and digitalization in manufacturing processes. Experience in integrating new technologies into production processes. Safety & Compliance Experience Proven track record of maintaining safety standards and compliance in a manufacturing environment. Experience with conducting safety audits and implementing safety programs. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards. Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Experience Experience working with cross‑functional teams to achieve production goals. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with other departments, such as engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain. Experience in managing supplier relationships and coordinating with external partners. Physical Demands Standing & Walking Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the manufacturing facility. Frequent movement within the production area to supervise and assist team members. Lifting & Carrying Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds. Occasional lifting of heavier items with the assistance of equipment or team members. Bending, Stooping, & Kneeling Regular bending, stooping, and kneeling to inspect machinery, perform maintenance tasks, and handle materials. Flexibility to work in low positions and confined spaces as needed. Reaching & Handling Frequent reaching overhead and below shoulder level to access materials and operate machinery. Manual dexterity to handle small parts and tools accurately. Pushing & Pulling Ability to push and pull carts, equipment, and materials as needed within the production area. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regular use of PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, and safety shoes. Compliance with all safety protocols and regulations regarding PPE usage. Work Environment Exposure to a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and potential hazards. Tolerance for working in conditions that may include dust, fumes, and strong odors. Physical Stamina Endurance to work extended hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as production demands.
