Product Owner (Experience in Acute Care Hospital Software with Clinical End Users) Location: San Diego, CA Duration: 12+ Months Contract Total Hours/Week: 40 Shift: 1st Shift (Eastern Time) Client: Medical Device Company Job Category: Engineering Level of Experience: Senior Employment Type: Contract on W2 (US Citizens or Green Card Holders Only) Candidate Requirements Bachelor's degree 3 – 5 years experience in requirements engineering, systems engineering, business analysis, or product ownership Experience working within an agile software development environment, directly supporting the needs of the sprint team as a product owner or product‑owner proxy Experience working on an external customer‑facing product; extra points for a next‑gen product Domain experience such as medical devices, hardware/software systems, or acute‑care hospital software for clinical end‑users Technical knowledge: software engineering or quality engineering, automation testing, cloud deployment, SaaS, web‑app API, microservices, .NET, SQL, C++ Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated leadership, influence, interpersonal, and negotiation skills Description As a Product Owner in the R&D group, the individual is accountable for functional feature definition and for the value delivered by the Development Team. The role ensures the product remains valuable to stakeholders through subject matter expertise, continued customer engagement, and continuous backlog grooming. Responsibilities include collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to perform user needs, requirements, and functional workflow analysis before development, defining clear user stories and acceptance criteria, and reviewing functional software solutions in partnership with the cross‑functional team. The role focuses on BD’s infusion connectivity software offerings and requires close collaboration within the sprint team to define user stories and associated acceptance criteria. Job Responsibilities Elicit feedback from stakeholders to confirm functional problems are understood Partner with business owners to clarify and prioritize the product backlog Analyze assigned functional workflows supported by Medication Management & Dispensing & Infusion software products Document functional needs in Features and User Stories with associated acceptance criteria and specifications Model functional workflows and create story maps for assigned features Collaborate with UX designers to create visual representations of proposed solutions Lead backlog grooming and refinement activities with the development team and R&D stakeholders Maximize product value delivered by the Development Team Ensure engineering and quality teams understand solutions well enough for estimation, development, and testing Drive readiness of features ahead of implementation Ensure product features meet the team’s definition of done Desired Experience Experience working within a cross‑functional product development team Demonstrated knowledge of agile product development practices, techniques, processes, and roles Familiarity with the medication management product domain Experience defining user‑facing problem statements and validating with stakeholders Ability to translate analysis results into functional design solutions Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar 3 – 5 years experience in requirements engineering, systems engineering, business analysis, or product ownership Desired Abilities Strong partnership skills with Engineering, Quality, Product Management, and Project Management teams Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills Excellent oral and written communication Comfort presenting to large cross‑functional groups Capability to garner and drive consensus across functions Comfortable with ambiguity Preferred Experience Familiarity with hospital, pharmacy, nursing, bioscience or related clinical domains Exposure to Hospital Information Systems (EHR, Pharmacy Information Systems, Patient ADT, PDMS) Experience creating and reviewing formal design inputs such as User Needs, Requirements, and Specifications Experience in an agile environment as product owner or product‑owner proxy Experience with systems comprised of hardware and software Position will start remote until COVID restrictions are lifted.
