Pest Control Technician

Under direct supervision of a licensed public applicator, train to mix and apply pesticides including restricted-use chemicals, set mechanical traps and use other methods as required to control or exterminate pest as an Industrial, Institutional, and Health Related Pest Control Technician. Train on the how to Inspect infested areas, observe clue such as tracks, food, and structural damage to determine species and population of pest. Wear respirator equipment when required. Work overtime as necessary. Subject to 24 hour callback for emergencies. This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as Pest Control Technician Associate(SK1) or Pest Control Technician (SK2). Under direct supervision of a licensed public applicator Manage wildlife on campus and airport property Become familiar with FAA regs at the airport and the DNR when dealing with wildlife using the State permit and the US Fish and Wildlife when using the federal permit and also dealing with the USDA when working at Vet school as well as the Meat lab, both inspected by the USDA Must obtain the following within 12 months: your 7A and 7B category become familiar with University Policy and Procedures and the different levels of service per building and room types Knowledge of measuring and handling chemicals preferred Familiarity with Purdue campus preferred Education and Experience (SK2): Qualified Candidates Will Need: High School Diploma/GED 3+ years of previous pest control experience as a certified operator Valid signed driver's license Skills Needed: Certification as a licensed public applicator in Categories 7A and 7B required Working knowledge of EPA, federal, and Indiana State Chemist Office guidelines Knowledge of measuring, mixing, and handling chemicals safely Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English in order to perform the essential duties of the position Ability to communicate daily with customers regarding a variety of issues Ability to read and interpret blueprints Must pass a physical examination and successfully complete annual medical examinations in accordance with safety regulations Respirator protection may be required during certain operations Ability to manage wildlife on campus and airport property Familiarity with FAA regulations related to airport wildlife management, as well as state and federal wildlife permitting requirements, including coordination with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and USDA regulations related to the Veterinary School and Meat Laboratory operations Must obtain the following within 12 months of hire: NRA Firearms Certification, Pyrotechnic Certification, Category 8 Public Applicator License (community-wide mosquito control), anticoagulant and Cy-Kick application certifications, and familiarity with University policies, procedures, and service levels by building and room type Familiarity with the Purdue campus preferred What We’d Like You To Know: To learn more about Purdue’s benefits summary Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position A background check will be required for employment in this position Retirement Eligibility: Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan Purdue is a community built on collaboration, with global perspectives, Boilermaker pride and endless opportunity to live, learn and grow.
