CNC Machinist Set Up / Operator

Peabody, MA | Contract Opportunity | $20.00–$35.00/hr

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist Set Up / Operator for a contract opportunity with a leading manufacturer of high-reliability interconnect solutions serving the aerospace, defense, medical, industrial, and advanced technology industries.

Our client designs and manufactures precision cable assemblies, connectors, and electromechanical solutions used in mission-critical applications where quality and performance matter most. Compensation

• $20.00–$35.00/hour , based on experience

Available Shifts

1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes and milling machines for production runs.
• Program and operate machines using G-code and CAD/CAM software.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
• Select tooling and determine appropriate machining methods for each job.
• Make machine and tooling adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and required tolerances.
• Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot mechanical or machining issues.
• Track production time and collect SPC (Statistical Process Control) data.
• Perform preventive maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and special manufacturing projects.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 years of machining experience , including 3+ years operating CNC equipment .
• Strong experience setting up and operating CNC lathes and milling machines.
• Proficient in G-code programming and standard CAD/CAM software.
• Thorough understanding of machining practices, tooling, and metal cutting processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience machining precision components on CNC lathes and mills.
• Advanced blueprint reading and machine setup skills.
• Experience with manual programming and production tracking systems.
• Commitment to producing high-quality work while meeting production goals.
