Environmental Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:
Environmental Maintenance Technicians are the foundation of Aspen General Contracting’s cleanup operations. In this role, you are responsible for collecting and properly disposing of litter and debris in designated public and private spaces across New Mexico.

Primary Duties:

  • Walk assigned areas (roadways, shoulders, medians, parks, lots) and remove litter by hand or using tools such as grabbers and brooms.
  • Bag collected trash and place it at pre-approved collection points for pickup by the hauler.
  • Sort and separate recyclable items when required by contract or company policy.
  • Follow directions from the Foreman regarding zones, pace, and quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean and respectful presence while working in public spaces.
  • Report large, hazardous, or unusual waste items (e.g. needles, dead animals, oil containers) to the Foreman.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and avoid overfilling bags or bins.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high visibility vests, gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots and weather-appropriate clothing.

Requirements:

  • Ability to walk for extended periods (up to 6–10 hours per shift) on various terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good attitude, dependability, and ability to follow instructions.
  • No prior experience required—training is provided.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Background check required.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

  • Prior experience in groundskeeping, sanitation, or outdoor labor.
  • Basic familiarity with safety practices around roads or public areas.
  • Ability to communicate in English.

Reporting To:
Foreman

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor fieldwork in heat, cold, or inclement weather.
  • May be required to wear long sleeves, work pants, sun protection, and steel-toe boots.
  • Restroom and break access may be via mobile facilities or public access points depending on location.
