Job Title: RN - ICU Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Strong ICU experience for first-time travelers Description: This is an opportunity for a Registered Nurse specializing in Intensive Care. The facility has 96 licensed beds, with a 16-bed ICU unit. The average daily census is 10 patients, with a ratio of 2:1 for ICU patients. Common patient diagnoses include ARDS, sepsis, COPD, DKA, and stroke. Nurses will manage arterial lines, titrate vasoactive medications, and oversee vent management and weaning with respiratory therapy support. Chest tube management and critical thinking skills are essential. CNA support is available, assisting with activities of daily living and transport. Charge nurses and a resource nurse are present to offer support. The unit has 24/7 respiratory therapy and intensivist coverage. Telemetry monitoring is available but does not extend to critical care unit rhythms, serving mainly as backup. Technology used includes EMR, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and various unit-specific equipment. There may be occasional floating to medical-surgical units with a 4:1 ratio. The unit culture comprises a mix of experienced nurses and new graduates eager to learn.
