Overview The Emergency Department Technician II reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician II performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician II performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Minimum Training and Education High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required and at least one of the following must be met: At least 1 year in a .6 FTE ED Technician I position at MUSC Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, CMA, Paramedic, or Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Experience in a military medical occupation At least 1 year of inpatient hospital experience A college degree Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider required and must be maintained. (Infrequent); exert up to 50 lbs. of force (Frequent). Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Visual and hearing requirements: maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or both; ability to see objects close at hand or at a distance; color discrimination; depth perception; good peripheral vision; maintain hearing acuity with correction. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements; deal effectively with stressful situations; work rotating shifts; work overtime as required; work in a latex-safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions; Selected Positions: maintain good olfactory sensory function; Selected Positions: be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
