Academic Pediatric Surgeon Position in Southern California

Position Summary:

Our organization is on the lookout for a fellowship-trained pediatric surgeon to fill the role of Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery within the Department of Surgery at our esteemed School of Medicine.

The selected candidate will join a team of five surgeons in a dynamic academic setting at our Children’s Hospital, which features 242 beds and supports an ACGME-accredited pediatric surgery fellowship program.

Currently, our facility operates as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, equipped with a 26-bed emergency department, an 84-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a 25-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. We manage a high volume of oncology cases and have extensive sub-specialty support. Our referral base encompasses approximately 1.2 million children, covering a quarter of California and representing one of the fastest-growing population centers in the nation.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to both research and education, collaborating closely with medical students, surgical residents, and fellows. Our division oversees a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program and a Clinical Research Scholar Program for residents interested in pediatric surgery. We also have a funded basic science laboratory focused on necrotizing enterocolitis and related neonatal issues, welcoming candidates with similar research interests. Additionally, we anticipate the launch of a fetal surgery center this fall.

All surgeons in our group maintain a busy clinical practice, emphasizing advanced minimally invasive procedures for neonates and children, as well as robotic surgery. As a Level 1 trauma center, we handle all pediatric trauma cases and are recognized as an EMCO center of excellence.

Faculty members interested in global surgery can engage in our division's extensive global surgery initiatives, including activities with our non-profit Global Pediatric Specialist Alliance and the Center for Global Surgery.

Compensation & Benefits:

The starting base salary for this position ranges from $425,000 to $525,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or incentive pay and is subject to the department's compensation plan.
