Triage Nurse

Job Description Summary Reviews incoming phone calls related to patient conditions, concerns, and needs. Consults with providers to present patient’s problem and/or condition and resolves the problem or directs calls to the appropriate person. Location Florida Oncology and Hematology Pay Range $20.78 - $36.53 Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities Answers and/or reviews phone calls from patients, caregivers, and outside entities and uses nursing assessment skills to determine the nature of each call, its urgency, how to resolve the question/problem and to whom to direct the call. Reviews patient’s chart for possible adverse events related to treatment prior to discussing with the provider. Discusses with physician and/or nurse practitioner the steps necessary to ensure proper patient care, including abnormal labs or tests, and takes appropriate action and charting. Contacts emergency room when a patient is directed there, provides explanation, diagnosis, and a provider contact number. Handles prescription refill requests according to company procedure. Assists across company locations as needed and works overtime with sufficient notice. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and the disaster plan. Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Education & Qualifications High school education required. LPN program graduate. Certifications & Licenses Unencumbered current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of employment or a multi-state license. CPR and BLS certifications required. Experience 1-2 years of experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital. Fast-paced, multi-site environment: Ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from multiple stakeholders and sites. Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required. Travel Up to 25%.
