This is a voluntary program which includes a 22-week residential phase followed by a 24-month post-residential phase. The purpose of the program is to provide a highly disciplined, safe and professional learning environment that empowers at-risk youth to improve their educational levels and become responsible and productive citizens of the State of Washington. Duties

Some of what you'll be doing: Assist the Registered Nurse with the coordination of the WYCA Health Center programs and services for a 24/7 residential program for at-risk youth, including health center operations, sick call, coordinating Cadet medical care, security, medication administration, overall wellness, and health & hygiene education. Act as a secondary resource for Cadet's physical health and wellness management strategies.

Qualifications

A valid Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse OR Recent graduate of a formal education program who is awaiting the results of the licensing examination or applicant with license from another state AND An Associates Degree in Nursing Special Requirements: Initial and continuous unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the state of Washington as an LPN. In addition, employee will be required to maintain CME credits sufficient to maintain license. Preferred/Desired Qualifications: Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field One year's experience working as an LPN in a Hospital, Clinical, School or Health Center setting. Experience in adolescent populations or school nursing is preferred. Working with at-risk or disengaged youth, families/guardians, educational/social service agencies and community members. Assessing emergency situations as well as the health needs and requirements of at-risk teenagers. Knowledge of: Knowledge of crisis interventions, psychiatric diagnosis, and treatment techniques. Knowledge of the Growth and Development in adolescents. Sound comprehensive nursing and medication administration practices. Administration and control of medication in accordance with state law. Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services. Communicable disease and control reporting requirements. HIPAA/FERPA compliance requirements. Skills / Abilities: Maintain the highest standards of personal and professional ethical conduct in accordance with established guidelines. Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations related to working with healthcare providers and in a school around information pertaining to medical and/or reasonable accommodation. Demonstrate safe health care, reflecting the philosophy, purpose, and standard of current law. Adjust to varied situations, demands, and new health issues. Maintain and process medical records in accordance with Federal, State, and Washington Youth ChalleNGe Academy requirements. Identify and manage behavior and impulsiveness demonstrated by adolescents. The ability to take action to learn and grow. The ability to meet the needs of others.

Supplemental Information

Routinely work a 40-hour work week as scheduled to provide ongoing customer and program support. Compensation: Wage/salary will depend on qualifications or rules of promotion. Conditions of employment: Lift, bend, stoop and reach when required to attend to Cadets' personal hygiene and routine physical and behavioral healthcare. Lift / utilize medical equipment as needed to provide care. Working Hours Normal working hours: Thursday through Monday 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Tuesday and Wednesday off. Additional work hours may be required to accomplish tasks related to coordinating medical services and responding to medical situations. Incumbent must be willing to work beyond the established core hours/days when necessary to accomplish the day-to-day duties and responsibilities. Initial month of employment work schedule will vary for training purposes and to meet program operational needs. Duty will include periodic weekends and nights depending on program activities and requirements, including responding to emergency situations in a reasonable amount of time when they involve Cadet health, safety, or security. Hours may vary on occasion to accommodate special events. Background Check Must successfully complete a pre-employment personal history and criminal background check investigation, which includes fingerprinting. The background check is required for all employees of the Washington Youth ChalleNGe Academy due to the nature of these positions (working with vulnerable youth) and the safety requirements of the job. Applicants are required to complete and sign a Washington Military Department Applicant Background and Disclosure Statement and a Waiver and Authority to Release Information Form. Candidates will not have access to any investigative materials and files. Must be willing to participate in periodic background checks in accordance with department policy. Failure to successfully complete any required background checks may be cause for termination. Drug and Alcohol Testing and Use Willing not to use or be in possession of illegal narcotics or controlled substances while on or off duty. Willing and able to be free from excessive alcohol consumption. Willing and able to pass drug testing requirements, including pre-employment (to include testing when employees change job classifications due to promotion or transfer or there is "reasonable suspicion"). WYCA Campus Ability, willingness, desire and commitment to work with all at-risk youth in a 24/7 highly structured residential setting requiring extensive interaction and contact with at-risk youth and parents who may be disgruntled, angry, disrespectful (use of profanity, name calling, etc.), depressed and at times confrontational. The WYCA campus is a tobacco, vaping, alcohol, drug, and weapon free facility. Weapons and alcohol are not permitted anywhere on campus when employees are on or off shift. This includes any alternate duty station site or in employee vehicles. Use of tobacco and/or vaping products is not permitted anywhere within the confines of the Youth Academy (to include alternate duty stations) or in the view of the students when performing off campus duties and responsibilities. Individuals working with at-risk youth in a residential setting are subject to safety and security surveillance. Willing to work in and around military facilities and programs. National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program-Cooperative Agreement (NGYCP-CA) Hands-Off Leadership Guidance Must be willing and committed to following the NGYCP-CA Hands-Off Leadership and Appropriate Relationships Guidance, recognizing that as a staff member of the Washington Youth ChalleNGe Academy, our positions have implied authority over Cadets, regardless of their residential or completion status. This policy prohibits staff members from touching Cadets in an aggressive or harassing manner or in any way inappropriate to a professional mentoring relationship. Hands-Off Leadership prohibits staff members from using unprofessional language, including profanity, vulgarity or off-color jokes when interacting with, correcting or motivating Cadets. Must be willing to follow directives and law pertaining to Hands-Off Leadership, Fraternization, Mandatory Reporting, and Appropriate Relationships. The uncompromising expectation for behavior in word and deed on the part of staff is nothing less than complete transparency and total professionalism. Travel/Training/Policies Must complete annual first aid and CPR training/re-certification. May be required to occasionally attend routine events, meetings or training at other locations. On rare occasions, travel in and out of the state for up to one week at a time. Must comply with Department policies and procedures governing workplace conduct.
