CT Scan Technologist - Full-Time - Day Shift - Jackson South

CT Scan Technologist is responsible for handling computerized scans and operating complex equipment to complete specialized diagnostic studies. Incumbents work closely with physicians during lengthy procedures that require precise timing and coordination, and are under general supervision by supervisors who ensure technical quality and effectiveness. Miami, FL – Full‑Time – Cat Scan Unit Responsibilities Operate highly sophisticated and intricate X‑ray equipment. Perform specialized diagnostic procedures utilizing computers to visualize parts and organs of the body. Conduct dynamic and other specialized scans of the head, chest, spine, abdomen, and extremities as ordered, using the correct windows and levels for each specific scan to ensure good quality control. Perform specialized diagnostic procedures such as biopsy drainage studies and prepare sterile fields. Provide radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Take scout views when needed. Assist physicians as required. Follow protocol for computer start‑up and shut down. Review patient charts for laboratory results, allergies, and contrast orders. Verify patient identification before transporting, injecting, taking over for another technologist, and before the scan is performed. Check for in‑patient and out‑patient identification and verify information against patient records. Use immobilization devices as required, complying with safety standards for age‑specific needs. Inject contrast material when approved by the radiologist according to departmental protocol. Practice Universal Precautions and utilize protective measures when administering contrast. Assist physicians in administering contrast materials. Develop films and adjust automatic film processing equipment as workload demands. Communicate with and reassure patients, addressing their physical and psychological needs during the procedure. Initiate life‑supporting measures for patients if necessary; must hold CPR certification. Provide holiday coverage as required. Use the hospital information system (HIS) to document complete and incomplete procedures. Detect and report equipment malfunctions and enter information into the downtime logbook. Complete laboratory records and reports and copy pertinent clinical information from the medical record to the radiology request form. Comply with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital protocols for all procedures. Receive on‑the‑job training in specialized technical areas and attend department in‑service programs for new equipment or techniques. Follow infection‑control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions. Review the CQI quarterly report at monthly section meetings and contribute ideas for quality improvement. Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise). Perform all other related job duties as assigned. Experience Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience. Education Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with additional training in CT is required. Skills Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines; excellent oral and written communication; capability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure; ability to understand and follow instructions; exercise sound and independent judgment; knowledge and skill in use of job‑appropriate technology and software applications; must maintain current unit‑specific and organizational certifications and competencies as required. Credentials Valid Florida State license as a Radiology Technologist is required. Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 must obtain the required ARRT certification by 12/31/2017. Employees hired AFTER 2/1/2017 who completed training at JHS must obtain certification within six months of hire. New hires with external training must hold certification at the time of hire. American Heart Association and applicable life‑support certification may be required at the unit level upon hire, with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Unit Specific Credential AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity. Working Conditions Physical Requirements Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with appropriate devices. Requires frequent visual acuity for extended computer use.
