TSA (Transportation Security Administration)
Transportation Security Officers Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may also extend to securing high‑profile events and safeguarding transportation systems. Qualification Requirements Experience: At least one year of full‑time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician. Credit for experience is based on a 40‑hour work week; part‑time experience is credited on a part‑time ratio. Education: High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC equivalency certificate. Credit for volunteer experience through national service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) is also recognized. Additional Requirements Occasional travel: Minimum three weeks of travel in a full‑time duty status may be required for TSA new‑hire training (up to six weeks). Other occasional travel may also be required. Selective Service registration: Verification required for male applicants born after 12/31/59. Credit check: Applicants must not have delinquent federal or state taxes, or past‑due child support. Residency: Applicants must have resided in the United States for three of the last five years. Exceptions exist for certain foreign‑service or study‑abroad circumstances. Political appointment disclosure: Current or former political appointees (within the last five years) must disclose this information to HR. Work Schedule Full‑time positions require 40 hours per week and are shift‑based, including irregular hours, nights, holidays, overtime, and split shifts. Part‑time positions range from 16–32 hours per week and follow similar shift patterns. Maintaining Employment Complete all required classroom, on‑the‑job, and initial certification training. Attend recurrent and specialized training and pass all recertification tests. Maintain a clean background: criminal check, credit check, and regular drug and alcohol screenings. TSO Dress and Appearance Responsibilities TSOs must adhere to the current Master Collective Bargaining Agreement. Earrings, piercings, and visible tattoos must conform to the specified limits and be covered if otherwise visible. Bargaining Unit Status This position is in the bargaining unit represented by AFGE. Other Information TSO remuneration does not confer competitive status; however, permanent employees with at least one year of continuous service may apply for positions in other federal agencies under the OPM‑DHS Interchange Agreement. #J-18808-Ljbffr
