Mental Health Clinician

Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital Under the general supervision of the Partial Hospitalization & Intensive Outpatient Programs manager and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the primary clinician’s duties include providing transitional and comprehensive mental health services, including case management, group and individual therapy, family psychotherapy, and crisis intervention, to a caseload of adults who are high risk for psychiatric hospitalization. The incumbent will complete psychosocial/functional assessments, mental status examinations, comprehensive treatment plan development, and discharge planning. Coordinate treatment among various agencies and advocate for clients to link with needed resources. Work with the treatment team and inpatient/outpatient units to facilitate referrals and service. Attend staff meetings and treatment planning meetings. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Direct patient care: maintain a clinical caseload and provide case management, individual patient/family meetings, psychosocial assessments, and treatment planning with the team. Facilitate psychotherapy skills groups, including psychoeducational, supportive, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness groups with diagnostically diverse adult patients; crisis triage/management. Clinical consultation to a multidisciplinary treatment team and liaison to inpatient/outpatient units to facilitate referrals and services as needed. Documentation of patient care: timely clinical documentation per LPPH, TJC, Medicare, and private funding regulations/standards; participation in weekly treatment meetings. Attend staff meetings, maintain knowledge of clinical service standards/regulations, infection control, and participate in LEAN Management systems and huddles. Participate in facilitation of Patient Advisory or Focus Groups on behalf of LPPH as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS A Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as a clinical social worker as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. For CSW2: registered associate with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in California. For CSW3: licensed with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the State of California (LCSW, LMFT or LPCC). Minimum three years of direct patient care experience in a mental health setting, group, and crisis management skills. Demonstrated ability to provide transitional, comprehensive mental health services, including psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach, and case management to a caseload of severely mentally ill adults at high risk for psychiatric hospitalization. Demonstrated ability to complete psychosocial/functional assessments, mental status examinations, comprehensive treatment development, and discharge planning. Excellent documentation and clinical skills. Ability to prioritize; work independently; excellent follow‑up; work well under pressure and deadlines. Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability. Demonstrated ability to assess suicide and violence risk. Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues as a member of the treatment team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance. Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy groups. Experience with populations diverse in ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Experience with acute psychiatric illnesses. Recent direct patient care experience with DBT and/or Partial Hospitalization. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS For CSW2: registered associate with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in California. For CSW3: licensed with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the State of California (LCSW, LMFT or LPCC).
