Nurse PractitionerThe person in this position functions in the Clinic and/or OR setting under the supervision of his/her assigned physician; may perform activities which involve an initial evaluation and treatment of the patient's condition, as defined in the scope of the State of Illinois standards.Hospital/Surgical ActivitiesSecures patients' history and physical and records same in medical recordAssists surgeon with daily rounds and records such as progress notesEnsures the delivery of required patient x-rays to the operating room prior to operative procedureAssists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room.Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as neededCloses surgical wounds and performs post-operative wound care, removal of K-wires, etc.Transmits supervising surgeon's orders and ensures co-signature by surgeonInserts foley catheters, prnApplies dressings, casts, splint brace, abduction pillows, etc.Participates in on-call activities with assigned physician according to the Medical Center policy on allied healthPerforms minor surgical procedures within scope of licensurePerforms and/or assists with patient traction, adjustment, realignment and removal of tractionDictates H&P's, consultations and discharge summariesClinic ActivitiesPerforms joint aspirations/injectionsInterprets x-raysApplies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physicianSecures histories and physicals. Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits.Removes staples, sutures, drains, etc.Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervisionDictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approvalOther FunctionsPerforms clinical research, presentations, and other academic activities, as needed with physiciansAssists in fielding/triaging physician callsMaintain a clean and safe work environmentOther duties as assignedRequirementsRequirementsEducationMaster of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner ProgramCertifications/LicensureActive Licensure as Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner in the State of IllinoisACLS desirable; current CPR requiredExperienceHistory of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrityTechnical SkillsAble to speak/write English language fluently; knowledge of second language helpful but not requiredSoft SkillsExcellent interpersonal and relationship building skillsPhysical RequirementsStand or sit for extended periods of timeOccasional exposure to electrical and chemical hazardsRequires lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs.)Requires the ability to bend and stoop without difficultyInvolves exposure to blood-borne pathogensRequires verbal/written communication ability in the English languageInvolves exposure to weather elements and travel to all associations.
