Essential Functions

Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Screens gynecological and non-gynecological cases daily and in a timely manner. Assists with preparation, staining and cover slipping of cytology specimens as needed. Assists in Cytology intra-operative or intra-procedural assessments that are scheduled with the Department in such areas as Ambulatory Surgery, Operating Room, Breast Imaging, Endoscopy, Off Site, Radiology and Radiology Department. Sign out cases with the Pathologist on (according to schedule). Labels all Cytology stained slides, compares name, number of slides, clinical information, and gross description against the Cytology requisitions. Change and clean equipment and solutions in the cytology aspiration procedure tray, keep cytology aspiration procedure supplies in tray stocked as needed. Process Send out samples and reports. Maintains all records as per regulatory agencies requirements. Maintains CME log. Participates in any other departmental activities as directed by the Chief Cytotechnologist or Laboratory Director. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

BS Required in ASCP Registry and/or Certified Cytology School. 1-3 years minimum experience screening gynecological, non-gynecological specimens and fine needle aspirations. Required. Familiar with Bethesda system for Cytology reporting. (Preferred). Flexibility. Organized. Adaptability. Attention to Detail. Stress Tolerance. Must be able to rapidly assess and respond to the situational needs of the department. Cytotechnologist - New York State Board of Clinical Laboratory Technology Upon Hire Required. ASCP - International Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR CLINICAL PATHOLOGY (ASCP) Upon Hire. ThinPrep Certification Preferred.
