This role sits in STI Clinics for the Bureau of Syndemic Infectious Diseases and provides clinical leadership for sexual health and syndemic response. The physician will supervise nurse practitioners and the Laboratory Manager in STI clinics, coordinate with nursing and clinic operations leadership, and support HIV, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis program activities. The physician will also deliver direct patient care as needed to cover NP scheduling gaps, provide technical assistance to program partners, and lead development of evidence based clinical protocols, quality improvement, and cross program outbreak response. Responsibilities also include guiding prevention strategies, surveillance, and programmatic responses to reduce disease burden across the community.
ESSE N T IAL DU T I E S
* Supervise nurse practitioners and the Laboratory Manager in STI clinics; provide routine clinical oversight, mentorship, and periodic assessment of training and competency needs to maintain safe, highquality care.
* Coordinate with the clinic operations director and nursing leadership to ensure adequate staffing, equitable assignment practices, and workforce resilience during surge events.
* Evaluates clinicians' performance using chart reviews and other evaluation tools
* Provides direct patient care in the STI clinics, including physical examinations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment (estimated 30-40% of time)
* Develops and maintains processes for referring patients to other health agencies
* Collaborate with nursing, laboratory, and clinic operations managers to ensure efficient and high-quality care
* Develop, implement, and maintain clinical protocols and standard operating procedures that align with departmental, state, and national guidelines and reflect best practices for syndemic management
* Lead quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical outcomes, equity in service delivery, and care integration across HIV, TB, and viral hepatitis program
* Use clinic and laboratory data to monitor trends, identify outbreaks or clusters, and inform targeted prevention strategies and resource allocation
* Support routine surveillance activities (including case investigation and reporting) and collaborate with epidemiology teams to translate data into public health action
* Coordinates training and medical education seminars for clinic staff
* Serve as the bureau's clinical subject matter expert for STI care and provide technical assistance to internal programs and external stakeholders on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and integrated care for HIV, TB, and viral hepatitis.
* Serve as backup to TB Program Medical Director (estimated 10% of time)

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Graduation from a school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), AND
* Completion of a residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), supplemented by two years of experience in the practice of public health medicine
Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications
* Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted physician license awarded by any U.S. state at the time of application
* Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted State of Illinois physician license and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate at the time of employment

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position based on the oral parts of the interview will be selected.
