Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Program Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe, assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. In addition to practicing clinical skills, externs will practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Program Length & Housing Most externship experiences at Carlsbad Animal Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Housing may be available in some instances.
