School Psychologist
The School Psychologist provides leadership to teachers and administrators in improving the achievement and adjustment of all children with special needs. To accomplish this task, the school psychologist must work collaboratively with the staff, administration, and community of USD 230.
Supervision: Director of Special Services
Payment Rate: Contracted Services – 197 days (9.5 months) unless otherwise specified Benefits According to the USD 230 Master Agreement Required Masters Degree from an accredited college/university.
Qualifications Current Kansas License on file in the district office, listing certification endorsement in school psychology.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office.
- Hold a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
- Desire to continue professional growth.
Physical: Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 20 lbs. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching. Must work indoors and outdoors year round. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
General: Support the goals of USD 230.
Responsibilities: Provide direct services to students as necessary. Facilitate the professional development of teachers. Employ assessment procedures that can be utilized for designing programs that meet the individual needs of students. Provide professional leadership in organizing and supporting the effective delivery of researched-based practices. Develop and present in-service programs that support collaboration, communication, and problem solving. Provide professional leadership in promoting a positive school and district climate. Ensure that all activities conform to district and building policy guidelines. Work effectively with community organizations and agencies. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Essential: Participate as a team member of the comprehensive evaluation, review, and functions re-evaluation process. Participate in meetings with parents and school staff to discuss student needs, special education and Section 504 eligibility, and individual education plans. Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available. Provide direct services (counseling, behavior management, etc.) to students with learning and behavior problems and include parents as appropriate to the service. Utilize and maintain the most appropriate and valid assessment procedures and instruments. Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational and behavioral problems. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of appropriate classroom instructional and behavioral strategies. Refer students to appropriate community agencies. Assist with transition plans between home and alternative schools or community work settings for students. Provide leadership, information, and recommendations to the Director of Special Services in making decisions regarding the activities of teachers involved with the integration of special education students. Assist building principals with the development and implementation of instructional and behavioral data analysis. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports as required by district procedures and state/federal law. Keep abreast of new assessment and intervention strategies. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others. Demonstrate an understanding and provide guidance to district personnel on state and federal special education and Section 504 regulations. Provide case management and due process. Facilitate re-evaluations of special education students. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals. Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as open house, student recognition ceremonies, parent-teacher conferences, school improvement committees, etc. Adhere to all district and building health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and Building Crisis Plans. Serve on committees to promote or further the goals of the district and special services. Demonstrate continuous improvement in current best practices, including behavioral and instructional interventions, functional assessment, collaboration, counseling, and consultation. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
