Job Title: Reporting Technical Lead


Location: Pittsburgh, PA (3 days hybrid on-site required)


Duration: 1 Year Contract to Hire (Candidates must be eligible for permanent conversion)

We are looking for a Reporting Technical Lead (PowerBI), someone who has experience with PowerBI Administration including being able to look at Report Performance and make recommendations on how to improve the performance. Additionally, the candidate will need to have strong communication as they will partner with the business and technical teams. They need to have strong hands-on PowerBI reporting experience along with expert level SQL experience. Experience with Angular (JavaScript/Java) is highly preferred along with any Oracle (Exadata) being a major bonus.


We are only sourcing candidates who are local to Pittsburgh, PA; have previous ties to Pittsburgh, PA (and interested in relocating back to Pittsburgh, PA) or come form similar type cities in Mid-West or Northeast (Map below showing states we may consider relocation candidates from):


Notes from Manager

• Successful candidate should know how to administer Power BI and configure the capacity as well as workspaces based on best practices.
• Candidate should understand applicability of capacity units and how to best manage resource consumption and infrastructure in given environments.
• Candidate should know how data gets connected from various sources (cloud and on prem) onto power BI Service through use of gateways.
• Candidate should be knowledgeable on which types of storage modes (import mode vs direct query, etc) are best suited depending on given use cases or scenarios.
• Candidate should know how to improve performance through various areas, querying, connection types, memory allocation, use of resources, number of cores, parallel processing, incremental refreshes, indexing, etc.
• Candidate should know the various types of admin roles in power bi and the steps necessary to establish sustainable infrastructure configurations and processes.
• Candidate should communicate well with others, be a great listener, but also be able to advice based on his/her expertise.
• Candidate should also be able to document processes and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities of Reporting Technical Lead:

• Consultant will lead global development team across US and India, leading 2 Scrum Teams concurrently on Data/Report related functions.
• Work with the product owner or business to understand the requirements and provide technical solutions.
• Data Management: Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data across all reporting platforms. Implement best practices for data governance and management.
• Training and Development: Provide training and support to team members and other stakeholders on the use of reporting tools and best practices. Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of reporting solutions and the team. Use metrics and feedback to drive improvements and ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and 8-10+ years of post-graduate experience in Data/BI Reporting.
• 5-7+ years with Power BI, including Power BI Service, Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Server.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in Data warehouses, Data marts, data integration and Data Governance processes.
• 7+ years of SQL skills with strong ability to work with data from various data repositories.
• 7+ years of Data Analysis, Data Profiling, Data Validation and Data Visualization.
• 3+ years and proficiency in DAX and Power Query required.
• Experience with Data Warehouse schema's including Star and Snowflake Schema.
• Experience in Oracle Exadata would be a major bonus.
• Experience in Angular preferred.
• Experience in Apache Echarts, D3 charts or any equivalent visualization frameworks is preferred.
• Ability to understand and articulate problems and solution in technology and business terms.
• Ability to understand and articulate technology and business impact.
• Proven experience in leading development teams.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple concurrent projects. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.
