Registered Nurse

Emergency Department Nurse Manager

Current NYS licensure as an RN in New York State. BSN or MSN preferred. National Certification in Emergency Nursing or Trauma preferred. Current in ACLS, PALS, TNCC strongly encouraged. Minimum of 5 years of Emergency Department experience preferred. Two years of management/leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

Hospital Operations: Provides supervision and guidance for nursing staff in providing quality patient care. Monitors throughput in the ED and assists with expediting movement when surges occur or movement to the inpatient units is slow. Evaluates patient care and recommends improvements. Identifies areas of improvement and implements corrective action plans. Shares in the financial management of the unit through developing of budgets/goals, including FTE, Capital and Operational, with an insight toward future needs and expenses of the unit. Audits charts as needed to follow deficiencies and identify weaknesses with newly implemented processes or areas that have proven to have opportunities for improvement. Assists with the planning and scheduling of staff. Helps with daily staffing as needed.

Leadership: Demonstrates effective leadership skills in the delivery of quality nursing care in a safe environment. Takes the lead in implementing change to positively impact quality care. Mentors charge nurses in assuming responsibility for the operational function of the unit and monitoring throughput. Monitors performance and provides feedback through annual evaluation process. Is involved in the disciplinary process as needed and assists with the interviewing/hiring and termination of staff.

Nursing Education: Oversees orientation process and in service training programs for nurses and ancillary workers in the ED. Works with RN preceptors and works occasional shifts overseeing the new RNs to ensure they are ready to be removed from orientation. Serves as a clinical resource to members of the nursing staff, especially during the evening hours. Works in collaboration with nursing education department to plan and carry out simulation of code blue, trauma etc in the ED during any hours of the 24 hour day. Educates nursing staff on new policies. Tracks and ensures nurses are up to date with the required trainings for working in the ED – BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC.
