Financial Controller

Scentiment is a fast-growing fragrance and technology company creating premium scent experiences for homes, offices, commercial spaces, and vehicles. Our products include luxury-inspired fragrance oils, diffusers, room sprays, candles, air fresheners, and scenting solutions designed to bring elevated fragrance experiences into everyday spaces. As we continue to scale, we are looking for a hands-on Financial Controller to lead our accounting operations, strengthen financial processes, manage cash flow visibility, support inventory planning, and provide accurate financial reporting to guide business growth. About the Role The Financial Controller will oversee Scentiment’s accounting function, including month-end close, financial reporting, cash flow management, inventory budgeting, inventory accounting, internal controls, reconciliations, compliance, and operational finance. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. The right candidate will be able to manage the day-to-day accounting details while also helping build scalable financial systems, reporting tools, and budgeting processes for the future. Key Responsibilities: Financial Reporting & Accounting Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process Prepare accurate financial statements and supporting schedules Manage general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll-related entries Ensure financial records are accurate, organized, and compliant with company policies and GAAP standards Maintain and improve the chart of accounts, reporting structure, and accounting workflows Cash Flow Management Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow activity Prepare cash flow forecasts to support leadership decision-making Track cash inflows and outflows across sales, expenses, payroll, inventory purchases, marketing spend, and vendor payments Partner with leadership to manage working capital and ensure the company has visibility into short-term and long-term cash needs Identify cash flow risks, timing issues, and opportunities to improve liquidity Support planning around major purchases, inventory buys, vendor terms, and growth investments Inventory Budgeting & Operational Finance Lead inventory budgeting and purchasing analysis to support product availability, cash planning, and margin goals Partner with operations and warehouse teams to forecast inventory needs based on sales trends, seasonality, lead times, and growth plans Monitor inventory levels, purchase commitments, reorder timing, and budget-to-actual performance Oversee inventory accounting, cost tracking, reconciliations, and cost of goods sold reporting Track landed costs, freight, packaging, fulfillment costs, and product margins Support reporting around SKU profitability, inventory turnover, stock levels, and channel profitability E-Commerce Finance Oversee accounting for e-commerce sales channels, payment processors, refunds, chargebacks, shipping costs, discounts, and marketplace activity Reconcile revenue across Shopify, Amazon, payment platforms, and other sales channels Analyze sales channel performance, transaction fees, fulfillment expenses, and gross margin impact Help improve visibility into product profitability and customer acquisition economics Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis Support annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and financial planning Analyze financial results against budget, forecast, and prior periods Identify trends, risks, and opportunities across revenue, margins, expenses, inventory, working capital, and cash flow Provide leadership with clear financial insights to support decisions around hiring, marketing spend, inventory purchasing, pricing, and growth initiatives Controls, Compliance & Process Improvement Develop and maintain strong internal controls across accounting, purchasing, inventory, payroll, and cash management Improve accounting processes, approval workflows, reconciliations, and financial documentation Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, auditors, banks, and other financial partners Support tax filings, sales tax compliance, 1099 reporting, audits, and other regulatory requirements Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting, inventory, cash flow, and reporting tasks What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar finance leadership role Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls Experience with cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and financial planning Experience with inventory budgeting, inventory accounting, COGS, and product margin analysis Experience with inventory-based, e-commerce, retail, consumer products, CPG, or logistics businesses preferred Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Xero, Shopify, Amazon, payment processors, ERP, or WMS systems is a plus Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving ability Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance leaders CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred but not required The Ideal Candidate You are a hands-on financial leader who enjoys building structure in a growing business. You are comfortable owning the accounting function, improving processes, managing cash flow visibility, supporting inventory planning, and creating reliable financial reporting for leadership. It is also about helping the company make smarter decisions around cash flow, inventory purchasing, vendor payments, product margins, marketing spend, pricing, hiring, and long-term growth.
