The position also requires duties such as: Assist the Head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition Assist the Head Coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities as directed by the Head Coach Assist the Head Coach with game strategy Maintain the equipment in orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security Model behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities Travel to and from away contests Participate in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, etc. Attend staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Volleyball Coach, Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator Qualifications Rhode Island Teaching Certificate preferred 1–3 years of experience coaching Volleyball at the High School level preferred Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount; extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the court Must be willing to accept a high level of accountability Must possess the ability to assess players Successfully complete the RIIL‑NFHS sponsored Fundamentals of Coaching Course Successfully complete a standard First Aid and CPR course Successfully complete the NFHS Concussion Course (renewed annually) Successfully complete the Rhode Island State Component (renewed annually) Successfully complete the online course NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest (renewed annually) Successfully complete a background check Successfully complete any additional courses assigned by the RIIL/RIPCOA New coaching hires must complete all courses within six (6) months of date of hire The Assistant Girls Volleyball Coach is required to abide by RIIL/RIPCOA rules, and assist in implementing and enforcing all policies of the South Kingstown School District and the Athletic Administration Physical Requirements Use hands Reach in all directions See Hear and understand speech at normal levels Communicate so that others will clearly understand normal conversation Communicate using telephone or other communication equipment Work Position (Percentage of Time) Standing 55% Walking 35% Sitting 10% Body Movement (Frequency) Lifting (up to 30 lbs.)
