Job Description

Loyal Source Government Services is looking for 1 full-time Dental Assistant to provide services to the Orlando VA Health Care System (OVAHCS) at the Lake Baldwin VA Clinic.

Job Summary : The Dental Assistant will be providing quality care to our Veteran population. The primary location for the Dental Assistants will be at the Lake Baldwin VA Clinic. However, travel to the additional outpatient clinics within the Orlando VA Health Care System (OVAHCS) may be required to support operational needs. Dental Assistants are required to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and consistent care to individuals.

Pay: $27.93/hr

Duties:

• Chairside Assisting: Set up operatory and/or surgery suite for planned dental procedures and clean dental unit for timely turnover, pass instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently, keep operative field clear of debris and retract oral tissue effectively and comfortably, prepare dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturers instructions, accomplish all intraoperative procedures within standard infection control protocols, assist in routine general dental procedures, assist in specialized dental procedures, such as oral maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, and surgical periodontics
• Dental Imagining: Characterize images by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed, utilize dental imagining safety techniques and minimize retakes
• Infection Control and Equipment Sterilization: Demonstrate proper infection control procedures when setting up and cleaning up operatories, properly prepare instruments for sterilization by SPD standards, prepare instruments in a manner that does not delay clinical care, demonstrate proper infection control procedures in exposing images, complete all documentation in accordance with facility policy and be responsible for proper use, cleaning, and documentation of pertinent reusable medical equipment in accordance with medical center policies
• Clerical Functions: Assist patients in scheduling appointments, assist in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointments, assist the dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in patient records, perform additional administrative and clerical duties assisted by the Chief of Dental Services
• Information Management: Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information, follow computer security regulations
• Patient Safety: Modify care as necessitated by patients age and abilities (patient transfer and position), provide accurate and understandable instructions to patients, participate in patient identification and time out per JCAHO requirements, monitor patient condition during treatment, being alert for signs of physical distress, monitor patient (BP, pulse EKG, pulse oximeter), and condition during moderate sedation and during recovery period following procedure.
• Employee Education: Comply with Employee Education requirements; complete mandatory annual safety training sessions
• Dental Laboratory Function: Pour impressions and prepare study models, make final denture impression trays and prepare bite rims, perform other dental laboratory functions as time and skills allow
• Direct Patient Care: Remove sutures and removal of periodontal surgical dressing, cast impressions for diagnostic casts and preliminary impressions for prosthetic fabrication, remove temporary crown/bridge and clean tooth preparation of debris, recement and fabricate temporary crowns, coronal polishing of teeth, place rubber dams and matrix bands, provide post-operative and other appropriate patient education

Qualifications:

• Must have a certification of completion from a one-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
• Provide a copy of the Dental Radiological Certificate
• Must have an active BLS and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
• A minimum of one (1) year experience as a dental assistant

Additional Information:

• Schedule will be Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
• Dental Assistants may be required to provide services outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to support patient care needs. When such coverage is required, the Government will provide at least two (2) weeks' advance notice when feasible.
• Dental Assistants may be required to travel between sites for coverage, as determined by Orlando VA Health Care Systems (OVAHCS) service's needs.
