Staff Accountant

Description Job Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a growing Managed Services Provider (MSP) with multiple affiliated companies under common ownership. This role manages day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, HR coordination, and the month-end close process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working across multiple company entities. This position is designed for an accounting professional who is motivated to grow into a leadership role and potentially transition into the Controller position within 2–3 years. Supervisory Responsibilities This position will not initially supervise any positions, however should feel comfortable growing into those responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities Accounting Operations Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks for multiple related business entities. Process and manage Accounts Payable , including vendor onboarding, invoice entry, payment scheduling, and expense categorization. Manage Accounts Receivable , including invoicing, collections, payment application, and customer account reconciliation. Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations across multiple accounts. Assist in preparing and completing the month-end and year-end close processes. Financial Reporting & Controls Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation. Assist with financial statement preparation and reporting. Maintain proper documentation and audit-ready accounting records. Support internal financial controls and accounting best practices across multiple entities. Human Resources & Payroll Payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee expense reporting. Maintain employee records and HR documentation. Support onboarding and offboarding processes from a payroll and accounting perspective. Multi-Company Accounting Manage accounting activities across several companies with common ownership. Track intercompany transactions and assist with intercompany reconciliations. Ensure accurate allocation of shared expenses between entities. Strategic Development Work closely with the Director of Finance to learn the full accounting and financial management structure of the organization. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and operational financial analysis. Identify process improvements within accounting workflows and reporting systems. Develop the skills and knowledge required to potentially transition into the Controller role within 2–3 years. Physical Requirements Extended viewing of computer screen. Sitting for extended periods of time. Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise and temperature changes. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business or 5+ years’ experience in similar role. 5+ years of experience in accounting. Experience working for a small to mid-sized company. 5 years of QuickBooks experience.
