CYLINDRICAL OD GRINDER

Location: Houston, TX 77087
Schedule: 1st Shift | Full-Time
Pay: $18.00–$25.00 per hour (DOE)

Position Summary

We are seeking an OD Grinder to join our precision machining team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating outside diameter (OD) and cylindrical grinding machines to manufacture and refurbish precision pump components. The ideal candidate will have experience grinding long shafts, maintaining extremely close tolerances, and performing quality inspections using precision measuring instruments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented machinist who takes pride in producing high-quality work in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Set up and operate OD (Outside Diameter) and cylindrical grinding machines.
• Grind pump shafts up to 48 inches in length.
• Machine and finish tungsten carbide , silicon carbide , steel, and other materials to customer specifications.
• Maintain dimensional tolerances as close as ±0.0005 inches .
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
• Measure and inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
• Make machine adjustments and offsets to maintain product quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Dress and maintain grinding wheels as needed for optimal performance.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
• Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Work independently while meeting production schedules and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OD (Outside Diameter) or cylindrical grinding experience required.
• Experience grinding long shafts or precision cylindrical components preferred.
• Experience working with tungsten carbide, silicon carbide, or similar hard materials is highly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications.
• Proficient using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Ability to maintain close tolerances of ±0.0005 inches .
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workmanship.
• Reliable attendance and a strong safety mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in pump repair, rotating equipment, or precision machining.
• Knowledge of grinding wheel selection, dressing, and machine setup.
• Experience working in a job shop or manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds .
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed.
• Manual dexterity to operate machinery and precision measuring tools.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment while wearing required PPE.
