Senior Clinical Director, for the Division of Speech Therapy Full-time, 40 hours per week About the Job: The Senior Clinical Director of Speech Therapy will lead and grow a high-performing division of approximately 170 professionals, including Clinical Managers, Clinical Coordinators, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Clinical Assistants. This role is accountable for driving strong operational and clinical outcomes while executing strategic business plans that enhance service line performance. As a key leader, the Director will shape and influence organizational strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and positioning the Speech Division for continued growth, innovation, and excellence. About the Division of Speech Therapy: Our speech-language pathologists care for infants, children, teens and young adults with autism, childhood apraxia of speech, dysphagia (swallowing problems), speech sound disorders and many other conditions. We create individualized plans and involve families in setting meaningful goals. We partner closely with experts in ear, nose and throat (ENT), gastroenterology, pulmonary medicine, neurology, pediatric rehabilitation, occupational therapy, audiology and other specialties. REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree or Ph.D. in speech-language pathology or communication sciences & disorders Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity. Prefer 8+ years of related professional experience. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) granted by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Ohio Speech Language Pathology license Preferred: Clinical, supervisory, and management experience in a medical setting JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Operational/Strategic Management: Responsible for the overall direction of the practice of their discipline at CCHMC. Supports the strategic priorities through targeted, innovative and responsive solutions. Serves as an organizational advocate and partner with business leaders. Acts together with management as a champion for positive organizational culture and quality of work life. Works with CCHMC Marketing to develop plans to increase business markets. Ensure the department's operations align with the Medical Center strategic plan. Collaborate with interdisciplinary Directors and Medical Directors to plan, implement and evaluate services. Provide clinical leadership to ensure quality patients care outcomes. Monitor appropriateness and effectiveness of patient care through quality improvement programs. Represent clinical practice and CCHMC at local state and national levels through involvement in professional associations and organizations. Promote a family-centered approach to care delivery. Determine avenues to improve the value of care and services at CCHMC. Provide leadership for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with organizational strategy, commitments and goals. Direct assigned project team ensuring effective utilization of resources. Compliance: Responsible for the understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for their area of professional practice. In this role, the senior clinical director, is the clinical expert in their filed at CCHMC. All local, state and national laws, practice standards and guidelines must be approved by this role. Responsible for evaluation of area of responsibility for compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Identify best practices as well as deficiencies to share with peers and make recommendations for improvement. Participate in the development of corrective action plans to guide needed and sustainable improvements. Ensure that compliance and readiness plans are current. Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status, and actions. Work with direct reports to insure that needed changes are made by the effective date of any change(s) in requirements. Develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures that guide and support departmental operations and services. Responsible for the clinical practice of their discipline for all CCHMC locations and staff. Responsible for interacting with state and national practice groups to keep CCHMC policies and procedure current with laws and guidelines. Performance Management: Direct the development and monitoring of an effective staffing and retention strategy, including hiring and terminating employees, workforce planning, succession planning; attracting and retaining top performers, partnering with leadership and Human Resources to develop effective and appropriate recruitment packages, and effective on-boarding programs for staff; effective performance management of direct reports; in partnership with leadership, provide mentoring and development to faculty and other leaders in effective performance management; mentor and provide learning and development opportunities for direct reports and others in business roles; effectively and appropriately leveraging human resources business partners to meet the division's talent management goals; ultimate responsibility for supporting organizational programs/plans that impact employees and ensuring communication, comprehension, and adherence to all Human Resources policies and related legal and/or compliance requirements Professional Development: As a leader in the profession, represent the organization at major external and internal meetings, conferences and seminars and enhance the awareness of CCHMC's position as a national leader in the field of pediatric health care planning. As an operational and clinical expert; model this knowledge in daily work and teach/coach others for their development. Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross training, literature and attendance at department meetings. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, collecting data and providing input to department discussions. Coach and mentor personnel to enhance professional knowledge. Make job requirements and goals for each position clear to employees and assure sufficient training to achieve the desired level of competency. Operations: Direct and oversee all clinical activities within the Division. In this role, the senior clinical director is the expert in their profession at CCHMC. Responsible for design and monitor efficient patient flow patterns and divisional workflow patterns to maximize clinical and staff efficiency; develop and implement policies and procedures for improved utilization and operations; identify opportunities for improving cost through in-depth process and analysis and develop and offer recommendations to drive significant operational change; resolve issues directly, or in consultation with leadership concerning staffing, utilization of facilities, equipment and funds; develop and interpret policies and procedures for faculty and staff; and ensure that all policies are in conformance with Medical Center guidelines.
