Overview The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Food Service Worker performs a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. This position is located in a Child Development Center (CDC) but may assist with food preparation for the School Age Care (SAC) Program. Responsibilities Prepare and serve meals for CYP programs in accordance with safety and hygiene standards. Assist with food preparation and kitchen tasks for the CDC and, when needed, for the SAC Program. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and utensils; follow proper cleaning procedures to prevent contamination. Assist in the preparation of recipes and portioning according to serving size requirements. Qualifications Knowledge and understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures. Knowledge of techniques for measuring ingredients and basic understanding of recipe construction. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to determine quantities and servings. Working knowledge of diet principles and sanitation standards to prevent contamination. Ability to clean equipment previously used for raw food and use chemical sanitizers or maintain proper water temperature when cleaning dishes. Skill to perform tasks involving several procedures and to overcome practical production problems, evaluate final food products, and initiate corrective action when needed. Skill to develop standardized recipes for quantity cooking and to adjust recipes based on equipment capacity and serving requirements.
