About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience - Ability to titrate drips and read strips Description: Unit has a capacity of 32 beds. Ratios for stepdown assignments are 1:3 to 1:4. Combination assignments of 2 stepdown and 2 floor patients or 3 stepdown and 1 floor patient are included. Common diagnoses include post-surgical thoracic and medicine patients. RNs are required to titrate drips with specific parameters ordered by the MD. Common titratable and set rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitro, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix. There is one Charge Nurse and three House Supervisors on the unit. A ratio of 3-4 certified nursing assistants is available per shift. RT equipment includes BiPap and traches; no vents are present. RNs are responsible for interpreting and charting patient rhythms every four hours or more often with medication titration. A centralized telemetry system interprets and places EKG strips into patient charts. Three weekend shifts are required in a four-week schedule; holidays may be required as needed. There is no call or standby requirement; floating is rare. The dress code consists of royal blue scrubs. The charting system used is EPIC.
