Software Engineer

ABOUT CYVL

The best infrastructure is invisible. You only notice it when it fails. For decades the people responsible for our roads bridges and sidewalks have been asked to manage the physical world with tools that cant see it.

Cyvl is the Physical AI company changing that. We build purpose-built sensors computer vision and AI that turn every drive into current data: what exists where it is and what condition its in. 500 cities and towns use our Infrastructure Intelligence Platform to direct the work and fix problems before they fail. 1 in 30 Americans drive on roads managed with Cyvl data.

The proof isnt a dashboard. Its a smoother commute a safer walk to school and public dollars going where they matter most. Were a fast-moving team in Boston building hardware software and AI for the real world. If you believe technologys highest calling is public good come build with us.

THE ROLE

As a Software Engineer at Cyvl youll build the systems that turn raw sensor data from thousands of miles of roads into the platform cities use to plan their work. Youll own features end to end from cloud pipelines and APIs to the web app our customers log into every day. Were hiring across levels from engineers a few years in to senior engineers ready to set technical direction. This role is based in Somerville MA or remote from San Francisco CA.

WHAT YOULL DO

• Design build and ship production systems across our stack: Python services cloud data pipelines APIs and the Cyvl web platform.

• Own features from idea to production working directly with product data operations and customers to understand the problem first.

• Build the APIs and integrations (Esri ArcGIS Cartegraph and more) that put Cyvl data inside the tools governments already use.

• Make our systems faster cheaper and more reliable as we scale to more cities more miles and more data.

• Use AI coding tools every day to move faster and help shape how our team builds with them.

WHAT YOU BRING

• 3 years of professional software engineering experience (for senior candidates 5 years and a track record of leading technical projects)

• Strong Python and experience building production backend systems

• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) containers (Docker Kubernetes) and CI/CD

• Comfort owning ambiguous problems end to end and shipping iteratively

• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical teammates

NICE TO HAVE

• Geospatial data or tools (PostGIS GDAL ArcGIS QGIS)

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) Go or TypeScript/React

• 3D graphics or point cloud work ( WebGL LiDAR)

• Large-scale ELT pipelines or data lakehouses

• Early-stage startup experience or a history of building from zero to one

WHY CYVL

Hard tech. Real streets. Your name on it.

• Hard problems in the real world. You build end-to-end: our own hardware software and AI with work that shows up on the street in the real world.

• Ownership that compounds. You own outcomes not tasks. You work directly with customers and across our team and youll own more sooner than almost anywhere else.

• Intense with heart. Were building a category so its not a place to coast. We also take care of each other have genuine fun together and believe in what we are doing.

WHAT WE ASK

• Cross lanes. Not my job doesnt exist here.

• Own without a playbook. The plan is still being written often by you.

• Try miss try again. We make big bets. Some wont land and we learn fast.

• Be in the room. Were on-site in Somerville about 90% of the time. If youre based in San Francisco this role is remote and youll be with the team in Somerville for the moments that matter like onboarding kick-offs and milestones.

Were a startup building a category. If that sounds like the draw not the risk wed love to talk.
