Medical AssistantUnder the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator/Supervisor, the Medical Assistant assists in the provision of direct patient care within the regulatory scope of practice. The Medical Assistant assists by performing routine patient care procedures, technical and supportive functions in the recuperative care or ambulatory clinic setting. Certain tasks may require the prior competency verification before performing.Principal Responsibilities:Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care personnel following established clinic policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilitiesCollects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement. according to established policies and proceduresPerforms lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency,Administers immunizations and all medications per provider's order after a licensed health care professional verifies the correct medication and dosage,Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placement. Documents measurement of PPD skin test and reports information directly to the provider or to the Registered NurseApplies/removes bandages and dressings,Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control per policy and procedures,Provides basic health information and education to patients using established policies and procedures,Works with patients on self-management goal as defined in the case management contract and/or under the direction of a licensed health care provider.Performs routine clerical functions as assignedTakes and routes phone calls timely and efficientlySchedules routine and follow-up appointmentsAccurately files all patients' labs, X-ray, EKG results and other documents after the provider has seen and signed off the information.Keeps patient exam rooms and work areas clean and stocked.Maintains confidentiality at all times.Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, including quality improvement, case conferences and in-service meetings,Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team,Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes.Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.Requirements:High School Diploma or GEDGraduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificateVerification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipunctureCurrent BLS certificate from the American Heart AssociationTwo years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferredBilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.*All JWCH, Wesley Health Centers workforce members are recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.Employee Benefits:Medical, Dental, VisionMonthly employer-sponsored allowance for assistance with health premiums.Funded Health Savings Account (up to deductible) to assist with carrier-approved medical expenses.Paid time off (vacation, sick leave) and 13 paid holidays.401(k) Safe Harbor Profit Sharing plan.Mileage reimbursement.Short- and long-term disability plans (LTD/STD).Life insurance policy & AD&D, and more!Become part of a team where your work matters.
