General Dentist Position at Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center

Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center (ICCHC) and its satellite health centers are the leading providers of primary health care services in the communities we serve, including individuals who are both insured and uninsured. ICCHC provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive health care services, including dental care. Our dental services provide a full array of preventative and restorative dental services for patients three years of age and over.

ICCHC is currently seeking full-time General Dentists for its Leesville and Many locations.

This position works independently, performing General Dentistry functions. Responsible for the care of own patients, and reports to the Dental Director for consultation and administrative support. The normal work period consists of 80 hours/two weeks; sometimes more hours, sometimes less hours, or as needed to provide departmental coverage according to patient demand.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

• Diagnosis and treatment planning for adult and pediatric patients.
• Providing emergency care (oral surgical skills for routine exodontias desirable).
• Providing direct comprehensive dental care; including routine endodontic, prosthodontic, and pedodontic treatments.
• Assists in supervising dental residents and students and being responsible for the care they provide (teaching experience desirable).
• Assist in the supervision of the care provided by the hygienist.
• Direct supervision over dental assistant.
• Monitor supply system.
• Participate in mandatory continuing education requirements.
• Work cooperatively with other departmental personnel in achieving center-wide health maintenance goals.
• Communicate and relate well with clients.
• Repairs injured and diseased teeth. Administers local and block anesthesia for routine dental treatment. Fabricate dental prosthesis for the replacement of missing or diseased teeth. Person must have the ability to direct and supervise skilled and semi-skilled employees.
• Performs examinations on patients to determine the nature of their illness; Provides preventive dental services such as prophylaxis, sealants, and fluoride application; Educates and instructs patients in oral hygiene.
• Work can be both mobile and sedentary. Must be able to bend, perform all procedures, and move about freely without limiting the ability to perform all duties as allowed by delineation of privileges for dentists. Supervisory time may require reading or using PC. Occasional local and national travels.

Qualifications:

• Requires excellent general dentistry knowledge.
• Must be licensed to Practice Dentistry in the State of Louisiana and possess a Dental School Diploma, Board Certification Notification and/or Board Eligible in a primary care dental specialty. Federal and State DEA Certificates.
• General practice residency or general dentistry (3-5 years) experience preferred.
• Graduate of accredited dental school.
• Teaching experience desirable.
• Functions performed require good clinical skill and judgement in areas of acute, short term and comprehensive dental care.
• Performs independently within the dental practice laws.
• Is accountable to the Dental Director on administrative issues. The provider is personally accountable for own patient care.
• Requires ability to work harmoniously with colleagues within the dental department to ensure the complete delivery of care, and other health professionals within the comprehensive medical environment.
• Those necessary to perform quality comprehensive dentistry; familiarity and skill in performing the dental specialties in general practice.
