Description: The occupational therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs. These programs help to restore or improve function in activities of daily living, functional mobility, cognitive tasks, strength, coordination, and range of motion. Services are provided across the full continuum and rendered in a cost-conscious, quality-focused, and customer-oriented manner. Compliance with all applicable regulatory standards is required in this role. The occupational therapist implements the treatment plan. They select appropriate treatment activities to progress the patient towards goals. Goals and plans of care are revised with patient and family input. Ongoing patient and family education and training are provided. Discharge instructions and follow-up will be given, along with referrals to community resources as appropriate. They act as a referral source for staff, families, and physicians on services and equipment related to rehabilitation services. In collaboration with the physician, the occupational therapist is responsible for the establishment and ongoing evaluation of treatment programs, plans of care, goals, and discharge plans. They establish a plan of care in conjunction with the patient and/or family members. Realistic discharge plans are established, incorporating patient and/or family member goals. Documentation of the evaluation and plan of care according to departmental guidelines is completed. Each treatment session is documented according to departmental protocols. Family education, discharge, and other required documentation are completed and submitted within facility and program guidelines. The occupational therapist adheres to ethical business practices. They strive to perform in a manner that conforms to the highest standards of ethical behavior, integrity, and honesty. Embracing diversity and demonstrating the ability to work together is essential. Confidentiality of all patient information must be maintained. Attendance and punctuality must adhere to system policy and procedure. They must dress according to departmental dress code policy, including wearing and displaying an ID badge appropriately. Effective verbal and written communication with all team members is required. Attendance and participation in staff meetings, required in-services, and process improvement activities are expected. Workload must be organized to complete responsibilities in an appropriate and timely manner. Materials and equipment must be utilized in a safe and cost-effective manner. Infection prevention precautions are observed. The occupational therapist strives to help lead the industry through vision, technology, innovation, and customer service. They aim to make a difference in the lives of employees and patients. A consistent application of customer service principles in all interactions with patients is required. Encouragement of a positive environment and experience for co-workers and patients is essential. Respectful treatment of patients and fellow team members is a must, fostering teamwork with trust, support, and collaboration. Knowledge of service recovery principles and appropriate implementation is essential. Participation in professional development and mandatory education activities is required. Core and annual competencies must be completed according to established departmental timelines. All educational requirements required by discipline to maintain licensure must be met. Participation in the orientation and training of new employees is expected. Completion of all mandatory hospital and/or system requirements is necessary. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
