Sanitary Sewer Pump Station Mechanic I Location: Chesapeake, VA (906 Executive Blvd.) Department: PUBLIC UTILITIES, Division: PUB UTIL M&O WSTWTR PUMP Requisition Number: 2026140 Job Type: Full Time Pay: $42,580 – $63,337.75 annually (Starting salary depends on qualifications and experience). Semi‑monthly pay basis. Hours: 40+ hours per week. Monday–Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. With on‑call rotation; may work beyond scheduled hours during emergencies. Driving Requirement: Routine (requires Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire) Job Description The City of Chesapeake’s Department of Public Utilities is seeking a motivated and skilled Sanitary Sewer Pump Station Mechanic I to maintain and repair the City’s sanitary sewer pump stations and equipment. In this role you will monitor system performance, conduct preventive maintenance, and respond to emergencies to keep the infrastructure reliable and safe for the community. Responsibilities Monitor SCADA systems and respond to malfunctions to restore operation. Perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical components. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure proper functioning. Monitor condition and operational status of control panel, electrical and telemetry systems; report issues to appropriate personnel. Assist in the installation and calibration of new equipment and systems as needed. Operate specialized motor equipment to support pump station operations, including pump and haul and wet‑well cleaning. Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and system conditions. Perform general housekeeping and ground maintenance of pump station facilities. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED plus any combination of education and experience equal to one year of college. Minimum of six months of related, full‑time equivalent experience. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets City Driving Standards. Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within six months of hire. OSHA 10, OSHA 30, confined space welding certifications desired. Ability to work in confined spaces, perform overtime, and respond to emergency operations. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 10, OSHA 30, confined space and welding certifications. Previous experience in industrial maintenance, pump station operations, or sanitary sewer maintenance and repair.
