High-Level Responsibilities and Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the setting.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team regarding the quality of care.
• Utilizes evidence-based practice to improve, guide and expand knowledge of skin and wound practice, assessment, and management (and may include ostomy and continence care).
• Leadership in evaluation of clinical practice, enhancement of staff knowledge, development of patient/resident education and clinical support to interprofessional staff (e.g., nurses, clinicians, physical therapist, and other clinical staff).
• Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization.
• Initiates a plan of care that promotes patient/resident and clinical staff progressive understanding of skin and wound management and healing.
• Integrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex wound care situations.
• Demonstrates expanded wound care knowledge base of the nursing process in the care of assigned patients.
• Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities.
• Demonstrates wound care competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills.
