Registered Nurse (Full-time RN)Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) protects and provides health care and education that empowers individuals and families. With respect. No matter what.In support of PPCWNY's mission, the Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct clinical care offered through a number of programs from family planning to surgical services ensuring patients receive professional services in a timely manner. The RN plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care for the treatment of women from puberty throughout the life cycle, in addition to male services. They also perform routine laboratory testing including blood draws.Essential FunctionsAccurately records data in the electronic health record regarding the patient's health history including obstetric, gynecologic, contraceptive, medical, surgical, family health, and psycho-social backgroundsPerforms routine vital signs and lab tests such as weight, blood pressure, urine, hemoglobin, pregnancy test, and venipunctures as necessaryIn an objective, unbiased manner, discusses pregnancy options with women and offers appropriate referrals and description of servicesMay duplicate labels for contraceptive pills according to the orders written in the chartAssumes legal responsibility in conjunction with PPFA for proper ordering, handling, and distribution of medications and supplies in compliance with State and Federal laws and with appropriate orders from the assigned clinicianPerforms routine injections as directed by clinicianAssists providers with abortion procedures and acts as a support to the patientSterilizes instrumentsMonitors patients in the recovery roomSets up and cleans procedure and utility roomsMaintains appropriate stock of supplies in exam roomsPerforms quality controls as directedCounseling and EducationProvides information and counseling on reproductive services; abortions, sterilization, as well as family planning methods: oral contraceptives, IUCs, diaphragms, cervical caps, condoms, vaginal spermicide, sponges, natural family planning, etc.; coordinates follow up visits with the clinicians as neededProvides information and counseling in areas of health maintenance and reproductive care such as nutrition, infertility, sexuality, family planning, breast self-awareness, menopause, HIV antibody testing, and safe sex techniquesLearns and uses information about how the needs of diverse patients can be sensitively metOther Accountability ActivitiesMay participate in the quality improvement program; follows up and reports all complications to the CQRM departmentAccepts individual and joint responsibility for, participates in, and works to achieve productivity, customer service, and capacity goals as set by PPCWNYParticipates in the orientation of new health center nurses, providing observational experience for medical and nursing students; may assist with nursing staff orientation and in-service educationStocks rooms and ensures that needed supplies and equipment are on hand; contacts the appropriate person(s) before supplies of any kind are depletedParticipates in affiliate initiativesWorks on other projects as assignedPerforms and/or consults on projects/studies as neededMaintains an awareness of the organizations' projects/initiatives as outlined in the annual plan and participates, as appropriateMay act as the resource contact for distribution of information or ordering of equipment or suppliesShows respect to patients and co-workers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints, and needsRequirementsQualificationsApplicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):EducationPractical Nursing Completion, Diploma, or Associate's Degree in nursing; BSN preferredExperience1 year of nursing experience preferredExperience with GYN care highly desirableCertificates, Licenses, RegistrationsCurrent New York State RN licenseKnowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesAbility to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, ability to work in a fast-paced environment; able to juggle multiple priorities a mustMust have excellent communication skills (verbal and written)Ability to work a flexible schedule, and travel to multiple sites, as neededPlanned Parenthood seeks candidates who are proficient in two or more languagesA commitment to PPCWNY's mission, vision and values along with a commitment to providing services to a wide range of clients and to the goals of PPCWNY is essentialWorking ConditionsStandard health center environmentWell-lit/ventilatedPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift 10 pounds with or without an accommodationPossess sufficient mobility to perform the Essential Functions listed in this Job Description with or without an accommodationMay experience visual fatigue working at computer with potential extended periods of sittingAbility to travel to all agency locations as assignedWork ScheduleThis is a full-time, 40 hour a week, position; regular schedule will be Monday – Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.Benefits & CompensationAt PPCWNY, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency. In alignment with these efforts, the pay for this position ranges from $32.30 to $39.46/hour.
