Pharmacy Supply Chain Technician Specialist

Summary Reports to the Pharmacy Purchasing Supervisor. Under the supervision of a pharmacist and Purchasing Specialist, receives medications and pharmaceutical supplies at the loading dock and transports them within the Consolidated Service Center (CSC). Identifies suspected illegitimate products and takes appropriate action. Initiates and executes electronic tracing of medications and supplies. Receives, signs, processes, sorts, and files pharmacy supply documents in accordance with Brown University Health policies and procedures. Performs duties in compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) Chapter 800 hazardous drug handling, NIOSH recommendations, and USP Chapter 795 non‑sterile compounding procedures. Prepares medication for distribution to replenish inventory at Brown University Health facilities and prioritizes logistics for shipping to appropriate facilities. Responsibilities • Receives medications and supplies at the loading dock and transports within the CSC. • Identifies and reports suspected illegitimate products. • Initiates and executes electronic tracing of incoming and outgoing medications. • Uses computerized systems for stock receiving and inventory operations; • Maintains stock conditions for light, temperature, sanitation, and segregation. • Serves as point of contact for pharmacy supply chain communications. • Provides accurate written and verbal communication regarding stock and supply chain matters. • Prepares and repackages bulk non‑sterile, non‑hazardous pharmaceuticals for distribution; • Labels and dates medications for distribution in accordance with pharmacist‑approved records. • Processes requisitions, obtains pharmacist verification, and distributes medications. • Performs routine preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment. • Participates in quality control, assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives. • Maintains cleanliness and organization of supply chain areas. • Recommends workflow improvements and collaborates with supervisors to implement changes. • Participates in orientation and training of new pharmacy staff. • Performs additional duties as needed within scope of licensure. Minimum Qualifications • High school graduate or equivalent; one to two years of college preferred. • Current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician II licensure. • Holds or obtains National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) within 12 months of hire. • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite. • Minimum one year experience as a pharmacy technician in a complex healthcare environment. • Knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). • Familiarity with purchasing and inter‑dependent software (e.g., RxStrategies, PeopleSoft, PharmNotes, Consorti). • Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Work Environment and Physical Requirements • Extended periods standing and walking. • Push and pull loaded flatbed, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds. • Visual and manual dexterity to operate computer and accessories. • Performs independently within department policies; refers complex problems to supervisor.
