About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Competency in Arterial Lines Description: Unit focuses on providing high-quality care in a stepdown environment. Average daily census is 24 patients with a bed capacity of 40. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 both days and nights. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac medical/surgical, dialysis, cancer diagnoses, vascular issues, sepsis, adult respiratory conditions, strokes, post stent procedures, post pacer placements, and renal failure. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin. Charge nurses are available on each shift and do take patient assignments. Patient care techs are on the unit, with a care ratio of 1:12, and have specific duties to assist nurses. Registered Nurses will troubleshoot high-flow equipment but will not have extensive duties regarding respiratory therapy equipment. Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. Every other weekend and a minimum of two holidays during the contract period are required. Floating to MedSurg or ICU may occur to accommodate patient acuity needs. Dress code includes navy blue scrubs. Successful candidates will be flexible, adaptable, strong communicators, and are expected to embrace feedback and learning opportunities. The unit serves a diverse population, requiring sensitivity and cultural competence in care delivery. Requests for time off must be provided upfront and are limited to seven days or less for the duration of the contract. The facility has a cancellation policy that allows for the cancellation of shifts under specific conditions. Electronic charting is utilized on the unit. A BSN is not required for this position. The care setting is acute, and the division is nursing. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
