Automotive Technology Student Employee

General Description Student will assist automotive faculty with general duties involving the maintenance of donated vehicles, inventory management, and preparation of laboratory setups. Responsibilities Maintain vehicles, diagnose problems, change oil, install batteries, and perform routine operations on donated vehicles. Assist the Program Coordinator/Department Chair with inventory and organization of tools, bolt selections, and special tools. Assist in preparing lab set‑ups for various classes. Abide by Board of Regents and College safety policies and procedures. Contribute to a safe educational and working environment. Participate in health and safety training and OCCC emergency drills. Qualifications Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (Fall/Spring) or 3 credit hours (Summer) or holding a Federal Work‑Study award. Familiarity with all safety procedures when working around vehicles and use of vehicle frame lifts, tools, and equipment. Ability to perform routine maintenance procedures without extensive supervision. Knowledge of basic electrical systems and safety issues related to charging and starting. Strong communication skills to interact with colleagues and students. Preferred Qualifications Basic automotive knowledge in maintenance and light repair. Physical Demands Occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Frequent movement within a classroom and shop area, including positioning near mechanical parts and vehicles. Regular use of a computer and mobile devices to prepare instructional documents and respond to email. Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, and gases associated with an automotive shop area. Work Hours and Details Weekly hours: As needed or assigned, not to exceed 25 hours per week.
