Summary
The Compressor Mechanic is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of gas compressors and related production equipment supporting Urbans oil and gas operations in the Price, Utah area.
This role performs preventative and corrective maintenance on compressor packages, engines, drivers, coolers, valves, piping, lubrication systems, and related field equipment. The Compressor Mechanic works closely with operators, foremen, measurement and I&E personnel, vendors, and operations leadership to minimize downtime, protect equipment, and support consistent production.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, safety-conscious, mechanically strong, dependable, and able to work independently in a field environment with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
1. Compressor Maintenance and Repair
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on gas compressors, engines, drivers, coolers, scrubbers, valves, piping, lubrication systems, and related production equipment.
Diagnose mechanical failures and identify practical repair solutions that restore equipment safely and efficiently.
Inspect equipment for abnormal noise, vibration, leaks, heat, wear, corrosion, and other conditions that may affect performance or reliability.
Repair or replace belts, bearings, seals, gaskets, hoses, filters, lubricants, valves, and other mechanical components as needed.
Support compressor start-up, shutdown, changeover, and return-to-service activities following maintenance or repair work.
Perform major maintenance, rebuilds, equipment change-outs, and field projects as assigned.
2. Troubleshooting and Reliability
Respond to compressor and production equipment issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and protect safe operations.
Troubleshoot recurring equipment problems and recommend and make corrective actions that improve runtime and reduce repeat failures.
Work with operators and field personnel to identify operating concerns, abnormal conditions, and maintenance priorities.
Coordinate with specialized service providers and equipment vendors when repairs require additional technical support.
Support maintenance planning by identifying upcoming service needs, parts requirements, and equipment risks.
3. Safety, HSE, and Compliance
Follow all Urban HSE policies, operating procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and safe work practices.
Participate in safety meetings, job safety analyses, field inspections, incident reviews, and corrective-action follow-up as required.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain awareness of gas, pressure, rotating equipment, stored energy, and other field hazards.
Maintain clean and orderly work areas, vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Report unsafe conditions, near misses, equipment concerns, leaks, spills, and environmental issues promptly to supervision.
4. Documentation and Work Coordination
Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection findings, repair notes, parts usage, and work-status updates in Urbans approved systems or logs.
Communicate clearly with supervisors and field teams regarding equipment condition, repair priorities, parts needs, and follow-up actions.
Document compressor downtime, failure causes, completed repairs, and recommendations for future maintenance.
Help maintain spare parts, shop supplies, tools, and equipment inventory for the assigned area.
Coordinate work activities with operations, measurement, I&E, contractors, and vendors as needed.
5. General Field Support
Support facility maintenance, equipment installations, calibration support, functional checks, and field improvement projects as assigned.
Assist with basic welding, fabrication, or light electrical and controls troubleshooting when qualified and authorized.
Drive company vehicles and travel between compressor sites, well sites, facilities, and other field locations as operational needs require.
Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours field issues as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned to support field operations.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical training, trade school, or vocational certification in mechanics, diesel technology, industrial maintenance, welding, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Typically 38 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance or repair experience in oil and gas, compression, industrial, agricultural, heavy equipment, trucking, or related field environments.
Oil and gas field experience strongly preferred.
Experience troubleshooting rotating equipment, gas compressors, engines, pumps, and related production equipment preferred.
Experience working independently at remote field locations is a plus.
Technical Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
Working knowledge of gas compression equipment and oil and gas field maintenance practices.
Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, lifting equipment, and maintenance equipment.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, work instructions, schematics, and operating procedures.
Basic computer and mobile-device skills for email, work orders, maintenance tracking, and communication.
Valid drivers license required; valid DOT medical card to drive a DOT registered truck.

Preferred Experience and Attributes
Experience with compressor engines, compressor controls, emissions-related maintenance, or compressor operating systems.
Welding, fabrication, or light electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting experience.
Familiarity with maintenance planning, parts management, work-order systems, and contractor coordination.
Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts based on operational needs.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Field-based role requiring regular driving between compressor sites, wells, facilities, and field locations in varying weather and road conditions.
Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and working on uneven surfaces.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials consistent with job duties.
May require work around operating machinery, pressurized equipment, natural gas, outdoor conditions, and confined or restricted work areas in accordance with applicable training and procedures.
May require occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response support depending on operational needs.
