Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of experience in an Emergency Department Experience with conscious sedation and critical thinking Knowledge in AMI management Description: The Emergency Department is a Level 4 trauma center. It has 24 beds and four critical rooms. There is one designated trauma room. An intake model is used for lower acuity patients. Patient ratios are flexible with RNs. Triage is done in a separate area, and travelers can perform triage if qualified. ED holds are managed within the emergency department. There are two well-equipped psych/seclusion rooms available. Security is present in-house 24/7. On average, the department treats 80 to 110 patients daily. General ED nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. ICU patient ratios in the ED can be 1:2 or 1:1, depending on acuity. There is a charge nurse and house supervisor present 24/7. Charge nurses do not take on patient assignments. ED Techs assist with various duties, including IV skills, phlebotomy, and wound care, with a ratio of 1 tech for every 10 to 12 patients. Paramedics are staffed one per day in the intake area and can perform multiple duties. Respiratory Therapy is available, but RNs troubleshoot ventilators and other equipment. All ED beds are equipped with tele monitoring capability. Registered Nurses are responsible for reading their own cardiac strips. X-ray and CT transport patients independently, with portable options available in the ED. Both Phlebotomy and nurses can draw labs as needed. Self-scheduling is not allowed, but block scheduling is available with certain limitations. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, and holiday work is negotiable. There is a call requirement for nurses. Floating is required between designated areas, with scheduling done in advance. Scrub color is navy blue dignity scrubs. Unit-specific orientation includes two days of hospital orientation and shifts with a mentor.
