Substitute Van Driver

PRIMARY PURPOSE :

Substitute Van Drivers are responsible for transporting students safely to and from school and provides assistance as requested by the transportation office on an as-needed basis.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS :

• Reports to the Transportation Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the Transportation Manager and/or Director of Transportation.

• Transports students safely to and from school. Assume responsibility for the safety of school children in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from school.
• Signals children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across upon departure from bus
• Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to principal of school or to supervisor
• Maintains License to be able to operate a school van
• Supervises pupil respect of others on van
• Inspects interior van at end of each run
• Maintains cleanliness of van interior
• Pre-trip and post-trip inspection of van each day
• Report delays and accidents
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

• Ability to operate a van in a safe and economical manner.
• Clean driving records

COGNITIVE/COMMUNICATION ABILITIES :

• Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition.
• Relaxed and calm demeanor.
• Ability to relate to students, parents and school system personnel.
• Ability to complete various forms and records including; route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports, etc.
• Maintain pleasant rapport with students and parents.
• Must be able to accept changes and be flexible in routine.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed above represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary. • Light Work: Exerting 5 to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arms(s) in any direction.
• Handling: Holding, grasping or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as pushing of buttons.
• Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
• Noise: The noise intensity level to which the worker is exposed in the job environment. (Moderate)
• Usual lifting activity: Sedentary, lifting up to 10 lbs. maximum and carrying small items
• Requires occasional bending, and speaking (these activities are an essential part of the job at random intervals)
• Requires frequent hearing, and reaching (these activities are a usual and customary part of the job.)
• Requires constant seeing (this activity is continually occurring as part of the job)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

• Current Act 34, Act 114 and Act 151 clearances
• School Health Form (including physical and TB test)
• PDE Form 6004 and Act 168 disclosure forms
