Diesel Mechanic

Abacus is looking to hire a Diesel Mechanic in the Beltsville, MD area. 

Your Key Responsibilities

• Technical Excellence: Diagnose and repair engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
• Independence: Troubleshoot issues independently, often with minimal diagnostic tools.
• Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, brake inspections, and fluid checks.
• Compliance: Ensure DOT compliance with thorough inspections and accurate documentation.
• Response: Respond quickly to driver-reported issues to minimize downtime.
• Heavy Repair: Perform or assist with engine rebuilds and dumpster repairs (including welding).
• Leadership Track: Collaborate with ownership to improve maintenance workflows and safety protocols.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience: 5+ years of diesel maintenance experience (technical school training is a plus).
• Skills: Strong understanding of hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, and engine diagnostics.
• Tools: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Licensing: Valid driver’s license and medical card required; CDL is a plus.
• Physical: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in all weather conditions, and stand for long periods.
• Mindset: A "lead-by-example" attitude with a desire to transition into management.

Schedule:

• Typical Week: 45–50 hours per week (Overtime pay included).
• Availability: Includes some weekends and travel; on-call for emergency maintenance needs.
