Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gowns and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons.Responsibilities include:Sets up tables, instruments and supplies for plastic surgery operationsAssists in preparation and draping of patient and operative areasPrepares and passes instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count of the sameAssists in maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysisDecontaminates all equipment, instruments and suppliesCleans and stocks storage room as requiredAssists with table equipment, positioning patients, application of plaster dressingsPrepares and maintains the sterile field for the surgical procedureAssists in discharging patients from the Operating Room SuiteFollows established HIPPA policies and procedures at all timesAssumes accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of mandatory training programs, unit specific requirements (i.e. BLS, ACLS, Surgical Assistant Certification) and unit meetings.Education & Experience:High School Diploma requiredMinimum 1-2 years of experience in an Operating Room setting requiredSurgical Assistant Certification requiredHolds and maintains an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) CertificationBilingual in English and Spanish preferredProlonged periods of standing, reaching and bendingMust be able to lift up to 10-20 pounds at timesGood motor coordination required for rapid and accurate movements of the body and hand in response to visual and audio stimuli in the Operating Room
